
The Madrid Tigers boys’ basketball team’s season came to a close Saturday, February 28, at the Knapp Center on the campus of Drake University in Des Moines, where a late push wasn’t enough to overcome Woodbine.
The 56–51 loss ended Madrid’s season in the Class 1A Region 6 championship game.
Sophomore Jevyn Severson poured in 17 points on 5-of-12 shooting and a perfect 7-for-7 at the free‑throw line.
He also grabbed 11 rebounds, including three offensive rebounds, while adding two steals.
Sophomore Logan Bogardus scored 15 points with a pair of threes and finishing 6-for-17 from the floor.
Junior Emerson Bridgewater added 8 points, including a three, and led the team with 3 assists.
Additionally, sophomore Kolbie Owens scored 5 points, sophomore Zach Newell had 4 points and Max Fowler added 2 points.
For the Tiger defense, Newell grabbed 6 rebounds (2 offensive), Bridgewater had 5 rebounds (3 offensive) and Owens added 3 rebounds.
Bogardus had 2 rebounds, and Fowler added 1 rebound.
Owens and Severson dished out 2 assists each while Fowler had 1 assist.
The loss ended Madrid’s season at 20–5, while Woodbine (17–8) earned its trip to the Class 1A state tournament next week at the Casey’s Center in Des Moines.
Season statistical leaders
Severson led the offense with 595 points, averaging 24.8 points per game.
He shot 64.0% on field goals, 38.5% on 3-pointers, and 73.8% on free throws.
Severson also led the defense with 238 rebounds, averaging 9.9 rebounds per game.
He averaged 3.3 offensive and 6.6 defensive rebounds per game.
Additionally, Severson had 75 assists, averaging 3.1 assists per game.
Emerson Bridgewater had 275 points, averaging 11.5 points per game.
He shot 45.6% on field goals and 27.7% on 3-pointers.
Bridgewater also had 90 assists, averaging 3.8 assists per game.
He also pulled down 169 rebounds, averaging 7 rebounds per game.
Bogardus added 245 points, averaging 10.2 points per game.
He shot 36.2 % on field goals, 35.5 % on 3-pointers and 85.1 % on free throws.
Finally, Newell grabbed 114 rebounds, averaging 5.0 rebounds per game, and Owens had 54 assists, averaging 2.3 assists per game.
