MADRID, Iowa—The Madrid Police Department has released a summary of the department’s activity from March 23rd to March 29th.

03/23/26

Officer received a call from a Madrid resident in reference to a suspicious van that had been sitting in front of her residence this morning.  The caller stated that she had seen it on several other occasions sitting in the area and was concerned that the vehicle was watching children walk to school.  Officer will attempt to locate the vehicle and identify the driver.

Officer spoke to a Madrid resident in reference to an on-going domestic case in Polk County.  She had questions about the no contact order that is in place with her ex.  She reported a 3rd party contact.  Officer called the subject who denied the 3rd party contact.  Officer warned the subject any further contact attempts would lead to a warrant being issued for his arrest. 

Officer was called to the 100 block of North Main Street reference a neighbor’s dog getting loose and killing 6 chickens.  The dog had dug under the fence and entered the chicken coop.  Officer will speak to the dog’s owner and mediate the situation and fix the issue to keep it from happening again.

Officer received a phone call on the City cell phone, caller wanted options regarding threatening text messages, Officer provided options and advised caller to call back with any further questions.

Officer preformed a traffic stop in the 300 block of South Kennedy Avenue.  Driver was warned for their driving infractions.

03/24/26

Officer did extra patrol in an area where a suspicious vehicle was called in the day before.  Officer did not locate any vehicle in the area.    

Officer received a call from a Polk County Deputy about a medical pick-up order that he had for a Madrid resident.  Officer assisted the Polk County Sgt with locating the female and taking her into custody for the committal paperwork.  She was transported back to Polk County by the Deputy.   

Officer assisted a DCI Agent, with a background check on a past Madrid resident, who had applied for a state position. 

Officer was called to the Madrid High School for a two-vehicle accident.  One vehicle was not damaged and the second only received a small amount.  Officer did a call for service for the accident.  

Officer assisted Boone County Sheriff’s Officer with an accident on QL lane and Highway 210. A Madrid resident had collided with the road closed barriers for Westbound traffic on 210. No injuries.

Officer assisted Madrid Fire/Rescue and Boone County Ambulance, with a medical call in the 600 block of East 2nd Street.

03/25/26

Officer did extra patrol in an area where a suspicious vehicle was called in.  Officer was unable to locate the vehicle.

Officer was dispatched to a vehicle at a high rate of speed, Southbound on Highway 17.  The caller was on with Dallas County and being relayed through Boone County.  Officer stopped the vehicle at Highway 17 and 210 and spoke to the driver.  He admitted to making a pass but stated that he immediately slowed down to just over the speed limit after.  Officer warned the driver to slow down.

Officer met with a Madrid resident who turned in a lost/found key that was found on the bike trail.  The key can be claimed at the Madrid Police Department.

Officer did stationary patrol on Highway 17 at the bike trail.  Officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle that stopped on the traveled portion of the roadway.  Driver was warned and educated on the safety issues of stopping on the Highway and allowing bikes to cross.

03/26/26

Officer was called to the Madrid High School for an issue with a student.  Officer gave the student a leadership speech and cleared.

Officer spoke to a Madrid resident in reference to the smell of marijuana from a house.  Officer informed them that they would give the area extra patrol.

Officer responded to the 600 block of Kingman Blvd to assist with a medical emergency.

Officer conducted follow up investigation in the 600 block of Washington for an incident that happened over the weekend.

03/27/26

Officer assisted deputies with locating a Madrid resident after their vehicle was located in a county ditch. The subject was fine and stated that he swerved to avoid a deer, couldn’t free the vehicle, and got a ride home. The deputy removed the vehicle from the ditch with a tow truck and cited the driver.

Officer was flagged down by a concerned citizen worried about someone’s driving. Officer was able to find the suspect vehicle and made contact with the driver, everything was fine, no intoxication.

Officer responded to the 200 block South Market Street, for a 911 hang-up. Officer made contact with residents of the home and everything was fine, false alarm.

03/28/26

Officer was approached by a Madrid resident who wanted to report of scam he had received, Officer advised it is a common scam they are trying and not to respond to the text.

Officer was notified of some rough play on the playground at the elementary school. Speaking with the child and the parent they just wanted to the other juvenile to be talked to about playing rough with younger children.

Officer responded to a business on South Kennedy Avenue, for an assist motorist call. Officer spoke with the occupant and they advised they were ok and had someone coming to assist in getting the mechanically disabled vehicle removed from the business property.

03/29/26

Officer returned a checkbook that was left at city hall.

Officer assisted with an emergent medical call on Newton Road.
