Marilyn DeVoogd

Marilyn DeVoogd, 88, Boone, Iowa

BOONE, Iowa—Marilyn DeVoogd, age 88, of Boone, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at the Madrid Home in Madrid.

Marilyn was born March 20, 1938, the daughter of Thomas and Theresa (Smith) Fitzgerald. She graduated from Boone High School.

She worked as a CNA at the Boone County Home and then at the Ogden Manor. Marilyn always looked forward to seeing her family and attending family gatherings. She loved animals, especially dogs, whom she enjoyed taking walks with. Marilyn was a lifetime member of the Church of the Sacred Heart in Boone.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters in infancy; two brothers, Tom (Jean) Fitzgerald and Mike (Marcia) Fitzgerald; and longtime companion, Bill McDonald.

Marilyn is survived by her two sons, James DeVoogd of Ames and Robert (Kay) DeVoogd of Boone; and nieces and nephews.

A Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Friday, June 5, 2026, followed by a visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. all at the at the Church of the Sacred Heart, 915 12th Street, with Rev. Timothy Johnson officiating. Burial will be in St. James Catholic Cemetery near Colo.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to the Madrid Home Community, 613 West North Street, Madrid, IA 50156.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Online condolences may be left to Marilyn’s family at www.schroedermemorialchapel.com
