BOONE, Iowa—Boone Mayor Dave Casotti will be the first to tell you his plan for something to recognize the 250th Anniversary of America definitely started late, but with support from community members, businesses and organizations will apparently succeed. That and having Photon Laser Engraving in Boone making contact really helped a lot.
Casotti initially brought his idea up at a City Council meeting, when he said he’d like to see U.S. Flags displayed on Story Street all the way to Highway 30. The city already has flags displayed downtown. Casotti then brought up the idea of banners. Hardware for banners is already installed on light poles on South Story Street, having been used in the past. That’s when the idea took off.
At the last Council meeting, Casotti already had a banner proposal from Photon and had several sponsors lined up. The City Council agreed to purchase any hardware that would be needed for additional banners and within a couple of days, sponsors were secured for 28 banners.
The two sided banners are expected to be installed by Boone Public Works before the 4th of July.
