The Ogden softball team held off a late push from Madrid to secure an 8–7 victory Tuesday, June 24, in a West Central Activities Conference showdown at Ogden.

The two teams traded punches early, with both offenses getting off to fast starts.

Madrid put up three runs in the top of the first and added three more in the second, but Ogden matched the Tigers with three runs in the bottom of the first and continued to chip away throughout the game.

Ogden added a run in the second, two more in the fourth, and single runs in the fifth and sixth innings, building just enough of a cushion to withstand Madrid’s late rally attempt in the seventh.

For Ogden, Clara Kruse collected three hits, including a double, while driving in four runs and adding a stolen base.

Grace Christensen also had three hits, two runs scored, and an RBI.

Sophie Seligman contributed a hit, two runs, and an RBI, while Harleigh Janssen added a hit and drove in a run.

Lauren Mathews chipped in a hit and scored, and both Aubrey Leonard and Adi Banks crossed the plate, with Banks scoring twice.

Katie Wilcoxson earned the complete-game victory, striking out five.

For Madrid, Samantha Springer went 4-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs.

Mayzie Surratt added two hits and scored a run, while Tilly Sweet drove in two runs, scored once, and stole a base.

Audrey Brown hit a double, and Hailey Renslow and Hadley Mickle, each recorded a hit and scored a run.

Elliana Tjernagel and Giana Tjernagel also crossed the plate for the Tigers.

Surratt was charged with the loss in the circle despite striking out six in a complete-game performance.

With the win, Ogden improves to 14–13 overall and 7–10 in the conference, while Madrid falls to 16–10 overall and 8–7 in conference play.

Ogden returns to action Thursday, June 25, hosting Des Moines Christian in a conference doubleheader beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Madrid will be tested on the road tonight as it travels to Des Moines to take on No. 5 Grand View Christian (16–1).
