
The No. 13 Boone softball team had a doubleheader sweep over Carroll at home on Monday, June 22, before losing to North Polk on the road Tuesday, June 23, in Raccoon River Conference play.
Game 1: No. 13 Boone 10, Carroll 1 (5 innings)
Boone wasted no time in the opener, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first inning on the way to a 10–1 run-rule victory in five innings.
The Toreadors added one run in the second and three more in the third to seal the win.
Halle Bailey led the charge with two hits, two runs scored, two RBIs, and two stolen bases.
Brooke Weisbrod chipped in two hits, a run, and an RBI, while Claire Hardinger added two hits and scored once.
Hailee Bingham tallied a hit, two runs scored, and an RBI.
Kaylee Kuehl and Olivia Garver each drove in a run, while Tenley Williams and Abigail Leu both recorded two hits.
Williams earned the complete-game victory for Boone.
Game 2: No. 13 Boone 10, Carroll 2 (5 innings)
The Toreadors carried that momentum into game two, again defeating Carroll in five innings, 10–2.
Boone scored three runs in the first, added one in the second, broke things open with five in the third, and tacked on another in the fourth.
Carroll’s only runs came with two in the top of the fourth.
Weisbrod highlighted the second game with a home run, which was one of her two hits, along with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Hardinger also had two hits, one run, and two RBIs, while Bailey added another RBI.
Kaylee Kuehl collected two hits and also threw a complete game with five strikeouts, limiting Carroll to just two runs.
Harper Kuehl had a hit, a run, and an RBI, and Leu added a hit and scored once.
No. 7 North Polk 9, Boone 1 (5 innings)
Boone lost to No. 7 North Polk, 9–1, in five innings Tuesday, June 23, in Alleman.
Despite the loss, Boone got hits from Harper Kuehl and Leu, with Harper Kuehl also scoring the Toreadors’ lone run.
Hardinger accounted for Boone’s RBI.
Weisbrod started and recorded three strikeouts but received the loss.
Boone now sits at 12–9 overall and 4–5 in the conference, while North Polk improves to 14–11 overall and 7–1 in league play.
The Toreadors will host North Polk tonight at 7:15 p.m. at Gary Creasman Field.
