Joining us on coach's corner KWBG got a chance to stock some boon baseball and I'll tell you what Torridor has had a quite of an end of the week for sure Charlie Eastland joining us and I hate to fast forward through a week Charlie because I know Ups and downs here and there you had a nice doubleheader sweep over Carroll early in the week But I got to jump right to the Prongie classic this weekend And we knew at least on paper West Marshall and MOC Floyd Valley Those were gonna be a couple of different Tasks number one, but some great challenges Boy, you outscore those two teams six to one if I would have told you that last Monday at this time You would have said can we write that up and get that in stone that that was a heck of a tournament for you guys Yeah, Saturday was a great day for a team You know, it's been a lot of fun to go and compete in the Prongie here the last three seasons now And yeah, really quality win over over West Marshall Fun game to play first time we've played them to my knowledge their head coach has become a good friend of mine over the years and so first time for us to go compete against each other and Just really proud of our guys how we played in that game and then yeah MOC going into that game was number two ranking in 3a and You know, we put it to them as well and you're just very pumped up about how our guys competed there attitude energy like Every guy in our roster was locked in on Saturday and was just You know ready to be there and compete Speaking of locked in Connor Skoggins seven innings pitched no runs one hit one walk one hit batsman struck out seven You were telling me what Connor was doing a year ago at this time Charlie kind of tell the audience what what was going on with Connor a year ago and then what a performance on Saturday, right? So Connor like he's real close to no hitter. Yes on Saturday and you know Uriah Gorman made a great play down the line ball was drilled down the down the third baseline One hop backhand by Uriah and he's got a super long throw against the fast kid kid beats it out is what it is and Great effort by Uriah, but um Yeah for Connor to go out there and compete like that a year ago on the prom he was Connor's first varsity start And so he had been a guy again like sophomore JV innings most of his junior year JV innings But just shoving during those JV innings like we've got to get this kid varsity innings And so get the chance to pitch in the prom a year ago and it's against Healan So one of the best teams in the state. It's like all right. Here you go, buddy That's not exactly a fair shot in my opinion, especially after we sat on our butts for about six hours in between games on that Saturday so You know for Connor to go out there a year later and to pitch the way he did against a solid West Marshall team Just just pumped up for him and just you know the work that he's put in in the offseason You know how much he cares about it all those things right like he deserves to go out there and have success He's worked hard for it. You had to feel good about that offense, too I know we want more hits and more runs But sounds like West Marshall had a couple of kids that dealt really well And so for you guys just to scratch and claw Charlie you need to get one run because your pitchers dealing You got him a run you got him just enough to win that game Right. Yeah, and we saw their best guy, right? We saw we saw back in the total He's their number one pitcher and he's got really good numbers and yeah We did what we could at the plate to get guys on move them over and eventually knock a run in and That's just good solid baseball. That's what you do when you got two good pitchers on the mound Well, I'll tell you what if I also would have told you that you would have got complete games from both your pitchers in that Prong you you would have said there's no shot, but then Levi Bain comes out and says, okay I got him. I got a follow Connor a little bit He comes out gives you seven innings against the as you talked about who was you know a top-ranked team in whatever poll You wanted to look at gave up one run on five hits coach You beat moc Floyd Valley five to one a game you guys had nine hits in as well Yeah, yeah, Levi was awesome force on the mound he really was lights out and Pitched a heck of a game and he's pitched well all season long But again similar to Connor right like Levi. I don't think he had a single varsity ending last year and Just pitched his way through JV balls a sophomore and a junior and Continues to get better every single year and here we are as a senior and we need pitching you know, we graduated a lot of 25 innings and you know, these guys had stepped up huge for us and I just can't imagine our season without without Levi Bain and Yeah, just What a day he had he was good at the plate as well and Just been a solid leader for our team Charlie something else that was and I know we just gave a lot of paths for pitching and for hitting I need to give it as well for for the fielding to in the field Charlie you guys commit just two errors in two games where I mean those You boot a ball or you something happens here there. Maybe those games turn the other way So tell me about that defense over the weekend. They were really I don't want to say flaw this but they were pretty close Yeah, played really well as well and Noah Davies has gone out there and has caught double headers for us, right and has caught almost every single varsity ending for us this season and Just another really good leader for our team But he's going out there on weak legs by the end of the week and catching, you know that that second game on Saturday and His ability to block a ball in the dirt recover it and throw a kid out. He's trying to take the next 90 feet Is is different than than any other catcher that we play against for pretty much the entire time. I've been coaching He's just incredible back there. He did that in the West Marshall game. It's a massive play in the game in the sixth inning Where again that their kid did got the took away the no-hitter Seeger trying to advance the third base on a ball in the dirt It's blocked and he's thrown out at third base and you know shuts everything down. It's just a massive play and He's been falling for us behind the dish Well, and you've told me this about Noah too He does a nice job and maybe nice isn't very is not the fair word Maybe I should say great job with even just your pitching staff to he knows and and kind of commands them to bring Hey, this is what I can see you're throwing the curve. Well, let's go with that a little bit more I mean, it is a great job with that staff Yeah, he definitely does he's constantly communicating with those guys and and making sure that they're confident in their stuff And making sure that they know that they can throw anything anywhere and he's gonna be there to block it for him and and To make them look good as well Well, the next time that we'll be talking Charlie the postseason pairings are gonna come out I'm not gonna make you prognosticate because I know you're worried just about Des Moines Lincoln here tonight And it's a special night to senior recognition here this evening Yeah, um, you know going out playing Lincoln here tonight and get a chance to recognize her six seniors and just uh, you know Proud of the way that they've handled themselves proud of the way that they've uh, you know come to prepare every single day And um, you know gonna be a good night to recognize those guys and to say thank you You know for their time as a bean baseball player, but you know, definitely not over yet a lot to look forward to here after senior night But yeah special chance to do that for them here six regular season games left Charlie. What the heck happened? Fastest season I can remember it just feels like it's gone in the blink of an eye here. So Gotta enjoy every day every every opportunity you have to go to the ballpark and to be there with the team and Just to really take it all in, you know, like we we make this thing really important, right? You know, we place a lot of importance on preparing and and Giving ourselves a chance to win competing hard to give ourselves a chance to win But same time the overall experience is is really important to me You know that I do everything I can as opposed to provide that for our players and our team as a whole and You know, cuz I I don't think when they walk away from this They'll remember, you know every individual stat or what our team record was or hang like that But they'll know if they had a good time, you know being there with their buddies and working hard and competing They'll remember a lot of those things for sure. Absolutely Charlie's always. Thank you so much for some time best of luck tonight and this week as well All right. Thanks, Ron. You bet Charlie Eastlin again joining us boon baseball here in coaches corner
