
The Madrid softball team closed out its regular season Tuesday, June 30, with a tough West Central Activities Conference doubleheader at No. 11 Pleasantville, falling just short in the opener before dropping the nightcap.
Game 1: Pleasantville 7, Madrid 6
Mayzie Surratt powered three hits, including a home run and a double, while adding an RBI and scoring a run.
Ashlyn Burkhart and Samantha Springer each recorded two hits.
Burkhart drove in two runs, while Springer added a run scored and an RBI.
Tilly Sweet also had a hit and two RBIs.
Hailey Renslow collected a hit and scored once, while Elliana Tjernagel crossed the plate and Giana Tjernagel scored twice.
Surratt struck out five in a complete-game effort but was tagged with the loss.
Game 2: Pleasantville 9, Madrid 0
Surratt again led the Tigers with two hits, while Savannah Bradley added a hit.
Surratt took the loss, recording two strikeouts, while Katelyn Mickle provided relief and added a strikeout of her own.
The Tigers fell to 19-15 overall and in the 9-11 conference while the Trojans improved to 16-11 overall and 13-6 in the conference.
The Tigers now turn their focus to Class 2A, Region 1 postseason action.
Madrid will travel to face Ogden (20-14) in a regional quarterfinal on Wednesday, July 8.
First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
