Tom Nystrom

Tom Nystrom, 75, Boone, Iowa

BOONE, Iowa—Tom W. Nystrom, age 75, of Boone, passed away, Sunday, July 12, 2026, at home in hospice care.

Tom was born on August 2, 1950, in Boone, the son of Wilfred and Irma (Clark) Nystrom. He was united in marriage to Pat Minard in 1983, and became a father to her children Jamie and Matt. They later divorced. He continued to be a part of Jamie and Matt’s families through the years and enjoyed spending time with his four grandsons.

Tom began his Co-op career at Tri County Co-op in 1972 as a feed truck driver. He was then promoted to location manager at Slater with Alleman Co-op in 1981. He finished his career being promoted to North Regional Manager with Heartland Co-op until retirement.

In his younger years Tom enjoyed helping friends at various racetracks, and snowmobile trips. He also enjoyed reading and rooting on the Iowa Hawkeyes and Minnesota Vikings.

A big thank you to Dr. Merchant and Mary Greeley Medical Center, along with the U of I Hospital for the many years of care provided since Tom’s cancer diagnosis. Tom also spent time at the Hope Lodge in Iowa City after his stem cell transplant years ago. He was very appreciative of the wonderful care he received.

The family would like to thank Suncrest Hospice and Home Instead for the wonderful care at his home for the last few weeks of his journey. They were able to crack through his gruff exterior and make his last days comfortable at home as per his wishes.

The family would also like to thank his friend Mark Roberts for taking numerous trips to Iowa City with Tom when he was receiving cancer treatments, he enjoyed the conversations and the time spent reminiscing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joyce Myers; brother-in-law, Larry Hardin, and a niece, Cindy Bowers.

Tom is survived by his daughter, Jamie (Troy) Tullis of Luther; son, Matt (Jaime) Barrick of Boone; four grandsons, Cody Tullis, Clay Tullis, Mason Barrick and Jase Barrick all of Boone; sister, Delores “Dee” Hardin of Cedar Rapids; nieces and nephews, Charles (Donna) Hardin of Cedar Rapids, Christine (Glen) Robinson of Cedar Rapids, Craig Hardin of Cedar Rapids, Kimberly Tesdahl of Boone and Kelli Ramsey of Fort Madison.

Visitation will be held Thursday, July 23, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, 1006 6th Street, Boone. A graveside service will be Friday, July 24, 2026, at 10:30 AM in the Rose Hill Cemetery, 1173 Laurel Lane, Boone.
