with us on our senior spotlight on KWBG. Get a chance to talk to Boone senior. Kayleigh Keele, we're going to talk to Kayleigh a little bit about senior year. We're going to talk some sports. You know what, I also got to ask too, about having a sibling in high school with us too, but we'll ask that to Kayleigh later on. But Kayleigh, let's talk about something first because this just started last year where tennis moved to a fall sport. So you have to kind of come right off a softball, which I know you're busy with during the summer when you kind of go right into tennis. Now you might have a little bit of a break. This is year number two. Did it get a little bit easier this year for you? Yes, it definitely got a lot easier. And I actually personally liked it better as I'm already like going through and doing stuff with softball. So it just makes the transition a little bit easier, not like rusty, not doing anything in the winter time. When you kind of go from one sport to another sport, and obviously all sports are a little bit different, but this one, a lot of it, you know, a lot of endurance. I mean, the one thing I've always said about tennis players is you guys are not just kind of, you don't get to call the time out and hang out for a little bit. And they know, okay, I'll go back in or I'm gonna sub in for somebody. I mean, this is kind of you or your doubles partner. Do you feel like your endurance is pretty darn good though? Yes, for sure. So tennis season so far, I know coming into the season, we had some pretty big expectations. I think you should. That you had such a nice season last year. Kaylee is being one of the seniors. What about expectations for this girl's tennis team?
Well, like coming off being ranked number two, we expect like a lot out of everyone kind of thing. So we just expect to always do our best. And just us seniors being there, Shalva under Klossman as we have two freshmen on the top six. Well, I tell you what, something you guys did is you guys have been super busy. You guys had Boone Invitational on a Friday. You go down to Pella on a Saturday. You play again on a Monday. I know coach told me he gave you guys Tuesday off. What do you do with it off day though, Kaylee? You guys have been really busy here the last week. Well, my off days look a little different than everyone else's as I also have volleyball too. True. You're, I was gonna say, you're doing the two sports. We'll talk about that in a second, but did you at least get to take a little bit of a breath on the off day kind of? Yes, I did. I mean, I don't have very many classes this year either, which is nice. I just get to sit home during the days. Oh, we take those, we take those. So tell me a little bit about playing both sports because obviously with volleyball in the fall as well, and I know that's something that Boone does allow us is that we can have, you know, somebody play tennis and then jump right into volleyball as well. What kind of a week do you normally have, Kaylee? A week usually looks like sometimes I don't get to go to volleyball as like we have tennis meets, but usually we have so many tennis meets on our off days. We just go to volleyball. But like yesterday, we had a me at 230 and then we had a volleyball game at seven. But let's also mention that wasn't just in Boone. You had a match in Boone for tennis and you had to go all the way over to Carroll. Not an easy day, huh? No. Okay, mom and dad were happy to drive you though, weren't they? Yes. Okay, I kind of figured they did, I kind of figured. Okay, so let's talk about school a little bit. I wanna know, you told me not maybe taking a ton of classes here first semester, senior year. Tell me what are you, what are you taking for semester here? My in-person classes, I take a human anatomy and physiology at DMACC, and then I take comp at the high school. And then I have two online classes, or yeah, I have computing and then I have psychology. Okay, I know you guys have been doing the in-person classes for a while and then the online stuff as well. So I'll ask you, do you have a favorite? Would you rather be in-person or would you rather do it either at home or wherever you do it on location? So last two years have been very nice doing it online, especially like having sports and stuff. Makes it a lot easier because you do it on your own time. Okay, so online is kind of your favorite, is that what you're telling me? Yeah. All right, I got you. All right, you told me about the classes you're taking. What about the future? Can I fast forward you to 2027 and graduation and all that good stuff? What do you think the future's gonna look like for you? What do you wanna do? I'm planning on attending a community college somewhere. I don't know where yet. And then doing a radiology tech program. Okay, you've been busy with sports, Kaylee. Is that something that maybe's in the future? Are we keeping options open or no sports after this year? I was planning on doing tennis somewhere, but anywhere that they have tennis that I wanna go, they don't have the program I wanna go for, so no. That doesn't work out so well, now does it? No. You think you'll be able to just give up tennis once it's done? No, I'll probably keep playing with my friends and my sister. I got you. All right, that does lead us to our next question because I told you I wanted to talk about having a sibling in high school. Obviously, you've gone your first three years at Boone High School with no siblings there. All of a sudden, now we got that freshman that's there. Tell me what it's like when you see Harper during the day. I love it. We're best friends, so it's great seeing her. Even, I mean, you get to see her at school and at home, but we gotta have, there's gotta be some sort of like, okay, we've had enough, right? Not really, actually. Okay, does she bum rides off you and stuff too? Yes, for sure. Now, is she ready on time when you're ready to go, though, Kaylee, is the question? Not usually. It's always those freshmen, isn't it, Kaylee? Yes, always. All right, so tell me about senior years, some stuff you're looking forward to. Now, I'll give you some examples. I know people look forward to the dances. I know, obviously, you've already had your first tennis match and you've already had your first volleyball, so we kind of got those out of the way as well, but give me some things. What are you looking forward to your last year at Boone High School? I'm going to State for tennis, for sure. Okay, that's one good thing. What about homecoming? We look forward to the dances and stuff? Yes, I love going out to eat with my friends. We don't usually stay long at the dances, but... Go, you make an appearance, Elise. Still looking forward to it, yes. Make an appearance, Elise, okay, I got you. Homecoming, that's gotta be pretty exciting your senior year, right? Yes. It's gonna say, I think everybody kind of looks forward to homecoming, and prom too, right? That's gotta be something you're thinking about. Yeah, prom is probably one of my favorite. I got you. Okay, now you said that you and your friends maybe make at least an appearance of the dance. What, if you guys get a chance just to hang out on the weekend, no tennis, no volleyball, what do you guys like to go do? Probably go shopping or get fun drinks somewhere. Okay, all right, shopping. Pickleball, we also love that. Pickleball's a big thing with you guys lately. When did that all of a sudden go crazy? Probably like two years ago, I wanna say. I was gonna say, all of us, like, everybody said, oh, pickleball's for us old people, but I'm telling you, you young guys like to go play that a little bit, don't ya? Yeah, there's always high school kids at the pickleball courts. That's cool, that's very cool. All right, Kaley, I didn't tell you about one question I was gonna ask you, so I'm gonna leave it for the last one, but it's not a tough one, because it's just a question you know, but give a piece of advice. If a freshman came up to you, Kaley, and said, hey, I wanna have a really good four years at Boone High School, what do you think you might tell him to do? Probably try your best that you can and have fun. That's good advice, very good advice. Kaley, thank you so much for some time. Best of luck the rest of your senior year. We'll be watching.
