The Boone football team opened the 2026 football season with a 14-7 victory over Greene County Friday, August 28 at Linduska Field in Jefferson.
The Toreadors struck first in the opening quarter when Maddox McIntyre powered into the end zone on a 1-yard touchdown run.
The extra point was good, giving Boone an early 7-0 advantage.
Greene County answered just 3½ minutes later.
The Rams connected on a touchdown pass and added the PAT to knot the game at 7-7 by the end of the first quarter.
Boone regained the lead late in the second quarter.
Quarterback Ashten Petersen found Ryder Hilsabeck for a 28-yard touchdown pass.
A defensive pass interference penalty was called on Greene County during the play, but Boone declined the flag as the score stood.
The extra point pushed the Toreadors ahead 14-7 at halftime.
The second half belonged to Boone’s defense.
While Greene County outgained the Toreadors 272-206 in total yardage, the Boone defense repeatedly turned the Rams away in Greene County territory in the second half.
The Toreadors complemented those defensive stands with a ball-control offense that produced several short drives and took time off the clock.
Petersen led Boone’s offense both through the air and on the ground.
The senior completed 7 of 10 passes for 45 yards and a touchdown while adding 80 rushing yards on 15 carries.
McIntyre scored one touchdown and carried the ball 18 times for 70 yards.
Hilsabeck hauled in seven receptions for 45 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, Hilsabeck also led the Toreadors with 10 total tackles and one tackle for loss.
George Grote and Fawkes Schroeder each recorded five tackles and a tackle for loss, while Patrick Houser and Anthony Heenan added four tackles apiece.
Boone also received key plays in the backfield from Silas Junck, who finished with four tackles and a sack, and Jonathan Van Roekel, who contributed two tackles, one tackle for loss and a sack.
Romero Young Jr. added a 30-yard fumble return.
The victory gives Boone a 1-0 start to the season, while Greene County falls to 0-1.
The Toreadors will look to move to 2-0 next Friday when they host Perry (0-1) at Goeppinger Field.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
