BOONE, Iowa—Mary Jane Haglund, age 80, of Boone, passed away Monday, August 31, 2026, at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone.
Mary was born September 25, 1945, in Boone, the daughter of Sidney and Mae (Freie) Stumbo. She attended school in Boone and graduated from Boone High School.
She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Boone, where she loved singing in the choir. Mary had worked as a CNA at the Madrid Home for a time, then at various food service establishments, but most of all her favorite job was delivering newspapers in Boone to the many people and getting to know them, she took great pride in that. She enjoyed crosswords, listening to music, riding her bicycle, all animals, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney and Mae Stumbo; daughter-in-law, Jana Haglund; half-sister, Florence Stumbo; two half-brothers, Ray Stumbo and George Stumbo; and a sister-in-law, LaVonne Stumbo.
Mary is survived by her children, David Haglund and Rebecca (Tracy) Anderson; three grandsons, Skyler Haglund, Keegan Haglund and Wyatt Anderson; and her brother, Jim (Barbara) Stumbo.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, 1006 6th Street, Boone. The funeral service will follow on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 10:30 A.M. at the First Baptist Church, 612 Eighth Street, Boone, with Rev. Janell Bloem officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Boone.
