Madrid volleyball picks up two wins

The Madrid volleyball team picked up two victories in five matches during a busy stretch of competition Monday and Tuesday, September 15 and 15, highlighted by a sweep of Collins-Maxwell and a straight-set conference win over Martensdale-St. Mary’s.

The Madrid volleyball team picked up two victories in five matches during a busy stretch of competition Monday and Tuesday, September 15 and 15, highlighted by a sweep of Collins-Maxwell and a straight-set conference win over Martensdale-St. Mary’s. 

Pleasantville 2, Madrid 0 

The Tigers opened a quad Monday at Ogden High School against Pleasantville, falling 2-0. 

Iyla Fine led Madrid with six kills and added four digs, while Rylin Velky had 10 assists. 

 Jaela Hansen recorded four blocks, Paige Richards had four digs and Abby Williams served two aces.

Savannah Bradley was perfect from the service line. 

Ogden 2, Madrid 0 

Madrid then faced Ogden and dropped a 2-0 decision.  

Hansen led the offense with six kills and nine assists, while Fine had 17 digs.  

Velky added four service aces, and Fine, Hadley Mickle and Bradley all served 100 percent. 

Madrid 2, Collins-Maxwell 0 

The Tigers closed the quad with a 2-0 victory over Collins-Maxwell.  

Fine served six aces to lead the way, while Velky finished with seven assists.  

Hansen contributed three kills and Bradley recorded four digs.  

Richards, Velky, Fine, Bradley, Olivia Pudenz and Williams all served 100 percent as Madrid finished the match at 93 percent serving efficiency as a team. 

Madrid 3, Martensdale-St. Mary’s 0 

Madrid returned to the court Tuesday for a West Central Activities Conference triangular and opened with a 3-0 sweep of Martensdale-St. Marys. 

Velky had 19 assists, while Hansen put away eight kills.  

Fine dominated from the service line with seven aces and added a team-high nine digs. 

Lillie Benton and Hansen each finished with a block, and Bradley and Mickle both served 100 percent. 

Van Meter 3, Madrid 0 

The Tigers fell to Van Meter, falling 3-0 in the nightcap.  

Velky handed out 16 assists, while Hansen and Williams shared the team lead with five kills apiece.  

Fine contributed two blocks and 13 digs, with Hansen also recording two blocks.  

Williams served two aces, and Richards, Fine, Bradley and Mickle all served 100 percent as Madrid finished at 90 percent serving efficiency. 

With the results, Madrid moved to 4-6 overall on the season. 

The Tigers were scheduled to continue their homestand tonight by hosting the Best of Boone County triangular.  

Boone and Madrid are set to meet at 6 p.m., followed by Boone versus Ogden at 7 p.m. and Ogden versus Madrid at 8 p.m. 

All three matches will be broadcast on KWBG, FM 101.5, AM 1590 with Sports Director Ryan Wendt on the call.
