Madrid girls’ cross country places fourth at South Hamilton Invite

Led by a runner-up finish from Madelyn Grothus, the Madrid girls’ cross country team placed fourth Thursday, October 8, at the South Hamilton Invitational in Jewell.

Led by a runner-up finish from Madelyn Grothus, the Madrid girls’ cross country team placed fourth Thursday, October 8, at the South Hamilton Invitational in Jewell. 

The Tigers scored 104 points to finish just behind Collins-Maxwell (102) in a tightly contested battle for third place.  

North Polk won the team title with 44 points, followed by West Marshall with 67. 

Grothus paced Madrid with a time of 19:18.94, finishing second overall in the varsity girls 5K race. 

Hannah Brandhorst also earned a top-10 finish, placing 10th in 20:07.74.  

The duo gave Madrid two runners among the race’s top 10 finishers. 

Charis Peasley was the Tigers’ third scorer, crossing the finish line in 21:40.19 to place 28th overall. 

Madrid’s final scoring runners were  Jordyn Adams, who finished 41st in 23:13.58, and Claire McCarty, who placed 44th in 23:19.26. 

Adelyn White provided depth for the Tigers with a 45th-place finish in 23:26.34, while Alaina Dvorak completed Madrid’s varsity lineup, placing 50th in 23:38.94.

The Tigers will return to action on Thursday, October 15, when they compete in the West Central Activities Conference Meet at Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center High School.
