Auditor, Commissioner of Elections, Meier Promotes Pre-registration

KWBG 04/17/19

BOONE, Iowa—Boone County Auditor and Commissioner of Elections, Philippe E. Meier, is encouraging those who wish to vote in the Boone 4th Ward Special Election scheduled for May 7, 2019 to register early if they are not already registered or if they have moved and need to update their address since the last time they voted.

In order to vote in the May 7th Boone 4th Ward Special Election, a voter must be registered.  Voters may register on Election Day.  However, Meier encourages voters to get registered before the pre-registration deadline of Friday, April 26th at 5:00 p.m. to avoid extra paperwork at the polling site on Election Day.

“Our precinct election officials are ready to assist any voter who needs to register on Election Day,” Meier said.  “However, it’s a much easier process if a voter registers before the April 26th deadline.”

A voter can still register after the April 26th deadline, but the voter will need more identification.  Voters who register and vote an absentee ballot in the Auditor’s Office after the April 26th deadline or those who plan to register on Election Day at their polling location will need to show proof of identity and proof of residency if their ID does not have their current address.  All forms of ID must contain a photo and not be expired.  Acceptable forms of identification include:

  • Iowa Driver’s License or Non-operator’s ID (not expired)
  • Out-of-State Driver’s License or Non-operator’s ID (not expired)
  • US Passport – card or book (not expired)
  • US Military ID card or Veteran’s ID (not expired or no expiration date)
  • Employer issued ID card (not expired, must have an expiration date)
  • Student ID card issued by an Iowa high school or college (not expired, must have an exp date)

Proof of residency must include the voter’s name and must be current within 45 days of Election Day.  Acceptable proofs of residency include paper or electronic copy of:

  • Residential Lease (date considered is the lease term, not the date of signing)
  • Utility Bill, including a cell phone bill
  • Bank Statement
  • Paycheck
  • Government Check
  • Other Government Document
  • Property Tax Statement (current within 45 days of final payment date)

For more information about the May 7th Boone 4th Ward Special Election, contact the Boone County Auditor’s Office at 515-433-0502.
