A new season got off to a fast start for the Boone baseball team Tuesday, May 19, as the Toreadors used an early offensive surge to defeat Des Moines Christian 8-3 in their season opener and home opener at Memorial Park.
After a 2025 campaign that saw Boone finish 23-10 and qualify for the state tournament, the Toreadors wasted little time showing they plan to be competitive again this summer.
Boone jumped on Des Moines Christian immediately, scoring five runs in the first inning to take control of the game early.
The Toreadors added two more runs in the second inning, building a 7-0 cushion before the visitors could settle in.
Des Moines Christian trimmed the lead with one run in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth, but Boone answered with a run in the sixth to close out the scoring and maintain a comfortable margin.
Noah Davies (senior) scored two runs, added a hit, and had two stolen bases.
Ryan Bowers (sophomore) drove in two runs with a double in the first inning.
Levi Behn (senior) had 1 hit, 2 RBIs, and 1 stolen base.
Tyce Carlson (junior) had 1 hit, 2 RBIs and 1 run.
Landon Youngblood (senior) scored 3 runs, and Braxton Gifford (sophomore) and Conor Scoggins (senior) scored 1 run each.
On the mound, Boone got a solid outing from its pitchers.
Scoggins earned the win, striking out five batters over 4 1/3 innings.
Behn contributed 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, recording two strikeouts .
Boone improves to 1-0 on the season, while Des Moines Christian falls to 0-1.
