The Boone boys’ tennis team came from behind to beat Norwalk Monday, April 20, after winning the Pella Invitational Saturday, April 18. 

Boone 6, Norwalk 5 

Boone edged Norwalk 6–5 in a competitive dual that came down to doubles play Monday at McHose Park in Boone. 

After going 2-4 in singles, Boone sealed the win by taking four of five doubles matches.  

In singles play, Boone scored points from Strummer Grout and Cal Jordan, both winning in straight sets at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. 

Grout won 6-3, 7-5, and Jordan won 6-2, 7-5. 

No. 4 Patrick Houser, No. 5 Brandon Holm and No. 6 Logan Wickman all pushed their matches to third-set tiebreaker but lost. 

In doubles play, No. 1 Grout and Jordan scored a hard‑fought three‑set win, prevailing 6‑4, 5‑7, 1‑0 (10‑8).  

Braxtan Sproule and Patrick Houser added another straight‑set win at No. 2 doubles, 6-4, 7-5. 

No. 3 Brandon Holm and Sam Chesnut also won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. 

No. 4 Logan Wickman and Kam Lehman also earned a victory in tiebreaker, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7). 

Boone wins Pella Invitational 

On Saturday, Boone won the Pella Invitational at Caldwell Park in Pella, capturing the team title with 160 points. 

The Toreadors finished well ahead of runner‑up Grinnell at 105 points, host Pella at 80 points and Ottumwa at 80 points. 

Sproule finished third in singles, beating two teammates from Boone. 

Houser placed fourth in singles, recording wins over Fairfield and Pella opponents.  

Wickman places sixth in singles, going 3-2 with wins over Pella, Boone and Fairfield. 

Holm and Chesnut placed third, winning three of four matches, beating opponents from Fairfield, Pella and Ottumwa. 

Jordan and Grout went 2-1 beating opponents from Pella and Ottumwa. 

Moses Junck and Lehman finished eighth, beating opponents from Ottumwa and Boone.

The Toreadors travel to Wartburg College to face Waverly-Shell Rock and Decorah Thursday, April 23.
