Boone boys’ golf finishes sixth at sectional

The Boone boys' golf team wrapped up its season Wednesday, May 13, with a sixth-place finish at the Class 3A sectional meet held at Briggs Woods Golf Course, carding a team score of 335 against an eight-team field.

The Boone boys’ golf team wrapped up its season Wednesday, May 13, with a sixth-place finish at the Class 3A sectional meet held at Briggs Woods Golf Course, carding a team score of 335 against an eight-team field. 

Des Moines Christian claimed the sectional title with a 308, followed by Humboldt (313) and Nevada (325) while Gilbert and Webster City tied for fourth at 326.  

Boone finished ahead of South Tama County and Perry in the standings. 

The Toreadors were paced by Jaxon Miover, who turned in Boone’s top round of the day with an 81, finishing 12th overall.  

Close behind were Brody McNace and Calvin Overton, who each shot 83 to place 16th and 17th, respectively. 

Carter Sonksen and Mason Oostenink both recorded rounds of 88, while Austin Maach rounded out the lineup with a 96. 

Nevada’s Parker Rodgers earned medalist honors with a standout round of 68, with Gilbert’s Jonathan Bouska finishing second at 71. 

Season wrap-up 

Maach posted the team’s lowest scoring averages at 38.60 for nine holes and 83.25 for 18 holes. 

He also shot a nine-hole season-low 36 and an 18-hole low of 74. 

Overton and Miover had a nine-hole average of 39 and 44.20, respectively. 

Oostenink and McNace had a nine-hole average of 39.40 and 41, respectively. 

The Toreadors won two home triangulars in April and followed that up with a runner-up finish at the Colfax-Mingo Invitational in early May.
