Boone boys’ golf is second at Colfax-Mingo Invitational

The Boone boys’ golf team finished second at the Colfax-Mingo Invitational Friday, May 8, at the Colfax Country Club before competing at the Gilbert Invitational Saturday, May 9, at the Ames Golf and Country Club.

The Boone boys’ golf team finished second at the Colfax-Mingo Invitational Friday, May 8, at the Colfax Country Club before competing at the Gilbert Invitational Saturday, May 9, at the Ames Golf and Country Club. 

On Friday, Boone posted a team score of 342, just nine strokes behind champion Pleasantville.  

Boone narrowly edged Greene County which finished at 344. 

Boone was led by Austin Maach and Mason Oostenink, who each carded 82s to tie for fourth place individually.  

Jaxon Miover and Calvin Overton both posted scores of 89, while Beau Bass added a 90 and Brody McNace followed closely with a 91. 

Pleasantville’s Lincoln Card earned medalist honors with an 80, edging Newton’s Ethan Pageler. 

Gilbert Invitational

Boone returned to action at the Gilbert Invitational Saturday. 

Boone finished ninth with a team score of 322 with Ballard winning the meet at 290. 

Maach again paced the Toreadors, firing a 74 to place ninth overall in the individual standings.  

McNace and Bass both carded 82s, while Miover and Carter Sonksen added matching 84s.  

Overton finished with an 88, Oostenink shot 90, and Ben Barrett rounded out Boone’s scores at 94.

The Toreadors are competing today at the Raccoon River Conference meet at Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames.
