The Boone boys’ tennis team strung together a pair of victories early this week, picking up wins over Newton and Waterloo Columbus Catholic. 

Boone 11, Newton 0 

Boone had an 11–0 sweep over Newton Tuesday, May 5, at McHose Park, winning every singles and doubles match. 

In singles action, Braxtan Sproule survived a tight battle at No. 1, rallying for a 3‑6, 6‑2, 1‑0 (11‑9) victory.  

Boone then rolled through the rest of the lineup, as Strummer Grout, Patrick Houser, Calvin Jordan, Brandon Holm and Logan Wickman all earned straight‑set wins. 

Boone continued its dominance in doubles, sweeping all five matches.  

Highlights included Grout and Jordan winning 6‑3, 6‑0 at No. 1 doubles, Sproule and Houser earning a 6‑1, 6‑0 victory at No. 2, and Holm and Sam Chesnut closing out their match with a 6‑0, 6‑2 win. 

No. 4 Wickman and Kam Lehman and No. 5 Moses Jungck and Max Goudie also won in straight sets. 

Boone 6, Waterloo Columbus Catholic 3 

Boone earned a 6–3 road victory over Waterloo Columbus Catholic Monday, May 4, at Byrnes Park, winning four of six singles matches and taking two of three doubles matches. 

In singles play, Calvin Jordan won 6‑3, 6‑2 at No. 3 singles, while Houser dominated No. 4 with a 6‑3, 6‑0 victory.  

Holm added a 6‑0, 6‑4 win at No. 5, and Wickman followed with a 6‑2, 6‑4 victory at No. 6. 

In doubles play, the team of Sproule and Houser picked up a win at No. 2 doubles, 7‑6 (7‑5), 6‑0, and Holm and Chesnut clinched Boone’s sixth point with a three‑set win at No. 3 doubles, 2‑6, 6‑1, 1‑0 (10‑6).

The Toreadors will travel to Alleman for the North Polk Tournament Friday, May 8.
