Boone boys’ tennis splits road duals

The Boone boys’ tennis team split a pair of road duals on Friday, May 1, earning a 7–4 win over Dallas Center‑Grimes before dropping a 7–4 decision to Pella later in the day.

The Boone boys’ tennis team split a pair of road duals on Friday, May 1, earning a 7–4 win over Dallas Center‑Grimes before dropping a 7–4 decision to Pella later in the day. 

Boone 7, DCG 4 

Boone picked up its victory against DCG by winning four of six singles matches and taking three doubles matches. 

In singles play, Patrick Houser cruised to a 6‑1, 6‑1 win at No. 3, while Brandon Holm delivered a key straight‑set victory at No. 4, winning 6‑2, 7‑6 (7‑2).  

Boone also earned points at No. 5 from Logan Wickman, who won 6‑2, 6‑4, and at No. 6 where Sam Chesnut earned a 6‑1, 6‑2 victory. 

In doubles, Boone secured two wins in third-set tiebreaker.  

The team of No. 2 Houser and Wickman battled to a three‑set win, 6‑3, 0‑6, 1‑0 (10‑3), while No. 3 Holm and Chesnut followed with another super‑tiebreak victory, 7‑5, 4‑6, 1‑0 (10‑4). 

Pella 7, Boone 4 

Later in the day, Boone lost to Pella. 

Boone earned singles victories from Houser at No. 2, who won 7‑5, 6‑4, and Chesnut, who picked up another straight‑sets win at No. 6, 6‑1, 6‑2.  

Several other matches were tightly contested, including a three‑set loss by Wickman that came down to a super tiebreak. 

In doubles, Boone earned points at No. 2 with Houser and Wickman winning 6‑0, 6‑3, and at No. 3 where Holm and Chesnut won, 6‑3, 6‑2.
