For the first time in Chris Mann’s 14-year career as head coach, the Boone boys’ swim team won the Toreador Relays on Saturday, December 7, at Boone.

Boone scored 68 points to cement the win. Marshalltown had 54 points, and Carroll had 50.

Rounding out the scoring was Atlantic with 20 points, Fort Dodge with 17 and Williamsburg had 16.

“What a meet,” Mann said. “I know this team was going to be good, but where we are now is even further ahead than what I imagined.”

The Toreadors had 3 2-man relays and 2 4-man relays that finished 1st and set meet records.

The 2×50 free relay of Carson Mueggenberg and Isaac Clark finished 1st in 42.87, breaking the previous meet record of 44.29 by Carroll in 2020.

The 2×100 free relay of Muggenberg and Warren Williams finished 1st in 1:38.45 and broke the previous meet record of 1:39.21 by Fort Dodge in 2016.

The 2×100 back relay of Clark and Cooper Jensen finished 1st in 1:52.37, breaking the previous meet record by 0.6 held by Carroll in 2023.

The 200 free relay of Mueggenberg, Siman Enabnit, Williams and Clark swam in 1:29.27.

“The 200 free relay blew the doors off the meet record by 3.3 seconds,” Mann said.

The previous meet record was 1:39.21 set by Fort Dodge in 2016.

They also set a pool record, beating the previous record of 131.02 set by Ames in 2013.

The 400 free relay of Mueggenberg, Williams, Enabnit and Clark finished in 3:20.61, setting a new meet record by 3.2 seconds and breaking the record set by Marshalltown in 2006.

Finally, Clark finished the 100 backstroke in 53.15 and set a new school record, breaking Landon Hartwig’s school record from 2008 of 53.55.

“The boys ended up medaling (top 3) in every event on the day, which is a huge testament to the work they are putting in to be competitors,” Mann said.

Complete meet results were posted on the KWBG Web site this morning.

Boone starts the season with an overall record of 5-0.

The Toreadors face Newton and Des Moines East at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 10, at Newton.
