The Boone girls’ tennis team finished a long week with 2 victories Friday, April 11, at home.

“We finished up 6 meets in 5 days with nice victories over 2 schools in the bigger class for tennis,” said head coach Shawn Latimer.

The Toreadors hosted Des Moines Roosevelt and Des Moines Lincoln at McHose Park.

Boone swept Lincoln, 11-0, in the morning.

In singles, No. 1 Kaylee Kuehl, No. 2 Livi Schneider, No. 3 Shannon Jenkins, No. 4 Juliana Lutz, No. 5 Ally Thompson and No. 6 Claire Hardinger all won in straight sets.

In doubles, No. 1 Kuehl and Schneider, No. 4 Michaella Anderson and Rozzie Stevenson, and No. 5 Thompson and Rachel Ungs all won in straight sets.

No. 2 Jenkins and Hardinger and No. 3 Lutz and Olivia Conlin won their doubles matches in super tiebreaker.

In the afternoon, Boone defeated Des Moines Roosevelt, 9-2.

In singles, Schneider, Jenkins, Lutz, and Hardinger won in straights sets while Thompson won in super tiebreaker.

In doubles, Jenkins and Hardinger, Lutz and Conlin, Anderson and Stevenson, and Thompson and Ungs all won in straight sets.

“It was a great week for us, and we moved our record to 6-1,” Latimer said.

Double dual at Hoover

The team traveled to Des Moines for a double dual against Marshalltown and Hoover Thursday, April 10.

The Toreadors found tough competition against Marshalltown, losing 3-8.

In singles, Schneider won in super tiebreaker while Hardinger won in straight sets.

In doubles, Kuehl and Schneider won win super tiebreaker.

“It was a 4 ½ hour battle between 2 3-0 teams when we tangled with Marshalltown,” Latimer said.

“There were 5 super tiebreakers, and we just came up a handful of points away from flipping the meet in our favor.”

Then, the team swept Hoover, 11-0, where all singles and doubles teams won in straight sets.

“We bounced back in the night cap with a victory over Hoover,” Latimer said.

Complete results were previously posted to kwbg.com

The Toreadors are currently 6-1 and host Pella Monday and North Polk Thursday.

“Next week we have defending state champs Pella and state qualifying team North Polk, so we will find out where we stand,” Latimer said.
