
The Boone softball team earned a pair of victories at the Oskaloosa Softball Tournament Saturday, June 6, at the Oskaloosa-Lacey Sports Complex, improving to 6-2 on the season.
Game 1: Boone 6, Newton 1
Boone broke open a scoreless game with two runs in the second inning against Newton.
The Toreadors kept the pressure on in the third, adding three more runs to build a lead.
Newton managed to score its lone run in the fifth inning, but Boone responded with an insurance run in the sixth.
Kalyee Kuehl provided a spark with a double and a home run as part of her two-hit, two-RBI performance while Claire Hardinger delivered two hits and drove in two runs.
Halle Bailey contributed two hits and scored a run, and Karsyn Smith added two hits and an RBI.
Kuehl went the distance to earn the win, limiting Newton to just one run while finishing with two strikeouts.
Game 2: Boone 6, Pella 1
Boone scored a run in the first inning and added two more in the second.
After scoring once in the third, Boone watched Pella answer with its only run in the bottom half of the inning.
The Toreadors, however, added two insurance runs in the sixth to secure another 6-1 victory.
Bailey collected four hits while scoring a run, driving in another, and adding a stolen base.
Hardinger had two hits and two RBIs, and Kuehl also chipped in with a hit and an RBI.
Brooke Weisbrod tossed a complete game, striking out five batters and allowing just one run.
With the sweep, Boone improved its overall record to 6-2.
Boone will travel to take on No. 2-ranked Carlisle (12-1) in a Raccoon River Conference doubleheader tonight.
