The Boone volleyball team picked up a victory and dropped two matches Saturday, September 26, while hosting the Boone Invitational at Boone High School.
Match 1: Boone 2, Fort Dodge 1
Boone opened the tournament with a 2-1 victory over Fort Dodge.
Halle Johnson led the Toreadors with 10 assists, while Hailee Bingham recorded a team-high five kills.
Payton Stolte added one block.
Defensively, Karsyn Smith led Boone with 15 digs, while Halle Johnson finished with 12 digs.
At the service line, Kyra Darby recorded two aces, with Johnson and Ava Johnson adding one ace apiece.
Ava Johnson was a perfect 7-for-7 serving, Ava Landas went 10-for-10 and Smith was 3-for-3.
Boone served 94 percent as a team.
Match 2: Forest City 2, Boone 0
In the second match, Forest City defeated Boone 2-0.
Halle Johnson handed out six assists, while Darby led the Toreadors with three kills.
Darby and Jenna Murray each recorded a block.
Smith again paced the Boone defense with nine digs.
Halle Johnson and Landas each had a service ace.
Landas finished 10-for-10 serving, while Bingham went 2-for-2, Ava Johnson was 2-for-2 and Darby went 1-for-1.
Boone served 92 percent as a team.
Match 3: Grinnell 2, Boone 0
Grinnell defeated Boone 2-0 in the Toreadors’ final match of the day.
Johnson recorded eight assists, while Bingham and Murray each had two kills.
Smith led the defense with 10 digs.
Landas, Bingham, Darby, Halle Johnson and Ava Johnson all served 100 percent in the match as Boone finished at 95 percent serving as a team.
Boone is now 6-13 overall and 0-5 in the Raccoon River Conference.
The Toreadors return to conference play tonight when they travel to Carlisle.
The Wildcats enter the match 7-14 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
