The Boone volleyball team scored two victories at the Newton Cardinal Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 5.
The Toreadors topped Davis County 21-10, 19-21, 15-12, and beat Lynnville-Sully, 22-20, 21-8.
Boone was 2-3 for the day as it lost to Eddyville-Blakesburg Fremont, 21-11, 21-11, fell to Newton, 21-19, 21-18, and lost to Ottumwa 21-11, 21-5.
Jenna Johnson led Boone in assists with 45 for the day.
Tria Hoyle had 14 kills overall, and Delaney Good had 10.
Addie Tungesvik led the Toreadors in digs with 44 on the day.
Good had 20 digs, and Danielle Eshelman had 18.
Madelyn Davidson had 8 blocks over 5 matches.
Boone struggled with serving and were below 90% in any given match.
The Toreadors got help from a couple unexpected sources.
Taylor Arringdale played in the 4th and 5th matches and went 16 for 17 serving 94%.
Davidson typically plays front row and does not serve very often, but she went 16 for 18 against Davis County and served 88%.
Emma Wiebold went 10 for 11 serving in the first 3 matches and was 90% while Eshelman was 19 for 22 on the day and was 86%.
Tungesvik nailed 8 ace serves, including 5 against Newton. Eshelman had 5 aces, including 3 against Newton, and Johnson had 4 aces.
Boone is now 6-17 overall and will look for its first conference victory against Winterset (14-11 overall, 3-2 conference) on Thursday, Oct. 10, at Boone High School.
