Aftin Speers, YSS Boone County Mentoring Facilitator visits about the Mentoring program. She talks about the need for mentors in Boone County Schools. There always seems to be a need for men interested in participating in the program. Mentoring generally occurs during the school year, so there’s still time to take the step and volunteer. Sara Behn, Executive Director, Boone County Hospital Foundation talks about there recent fund raising event, the Fall Harvest Festival, Derby Days. She let us know that a record amount was received with a significant focus on the hospitals “Project Be the Light”. Behn also talked about end of the year giving and some of the activities coming up at Boone County Hospital. Aired Friday, November 22, 2024.

Katie Darby, Tour of Homes and A Festival of Trees. The Tour of Homes in Boone County, now in it’s 6th Year continues to raise funds to support Wings of Refuge assisting women rescued from trafficking. This year an added feature, A Festival of Trees at the Iowa Arboretum. The Arboretum, also home to Tree House Village which is also expected to be decorated. John Roosa, Administrator, Boone County Landfill and Recycling, talks about the recycling efforts in Boone County. The current business recycling effort will gradually change over to focus on more cardboard recycling. Boone County Recycling now has a now truck that should prove to be more efficient and offer better opportunities to stream line services. Aired Wednesday, November 20, 2024.
