With us on coach's corner here on KWBG going to talk some Boon Boyz soccer. Connor Doyle joining us as the Torridors had their Invitational over the weekend where Des Moines North and Underwood had a chance to come Coach just coming off. I know a rough one with ponderant frar on Friday Although you told me you felt like the boys played pretty well against north even though the score might not show it Yeah, um We knew going into it that they're going to be a you know A shifty team they like to they like to do all the fancy stuff. They got good footwork They're kind of a you know a team that They don't they didn't really play as a team. They were kind of a individually. They you know, there's kind of play for themselves They're kind of selfish, but man, they have the foot skill. They have the speed. That's for dang sure and you know, yeah, we For the first little bit we were kind of hanging with them and seemed like we were kind of frustrating them a little bit
Once they kind of found their way though It was it was hard to you know, kind of slow them down at that point, but Overall, yeah, I was I was more pleased with that game. I was against the Underwood Underwood game, but Um, yeah overall not not awful not an awful weekend whether it definitely helped whether never hers. That's for sure All right, so take me into the into that corner because that was interesting when you when you told me that all fair I felt like you played better against north Underwood was a five to one loss. What made you feel better about north than maybe Underwood? I don't know. Maybe it's just it was our first game of the day. It seemed like we wanted it more It seemed like This seemed like our effort was was higher again It might just be just because that was our first game of the day and sir. We were just exhausted for that second game Yeah, they just seemed like we wanted it more and it seemed like our communication was better Um, you know, we were just more positive as a team, you know, again with each other um Yeah, I would just say the big thing was our effort just seemed Higher against Des Moines north of the dig against You know Underwood, which was a team Underwood wasn't bad by any means, but it was definitely a more winnable game for us Um, but it just didn't it just seemed like we were just kind of out of it We were getting frustrated with each other And uh, yeah, I just see we just seemed tired. We seemed really tired against them Um, you know, you know, we had you know, and I could have been though What killed us, but we had like a good hour and a half two hour break Um, I don't know if that was too much Uh, whereas Underwood, you know, they played and then they had like a 20 minute break and then they just played again Um, so who knows? Um, but overall Uh, you know, I'm I'm proud of the way the guys battled. Um, you know, we're we're still staying Positive and uh, we're gonna start focusing on carol now Shots on goal. How'd that look this weekend connor? I know that was something you and I talked about last time was You know, and I know this sounds elementary and probably captain obvious But we're not going to score if we're not getting shots on goal. Is that starting to improve a little bit? Yeah, it is. Um The guys are starting to you know, figure that out as well. Like you said, it's pretty elementary to say it that way But it's it's true and it's almost like we we haven't realized that Um, but you know, I've just been telling the guys even just even if you don't have the most clear shot Just just send one in there. You never know. I mean, it's happening against us multiple times where Uh, the other team doesn't have a clear look, but they take a shot and it bounces off two three guys and Uh, it's hard for the keeper to you know, uh, keep his eyes on it when it's flying through traffic like that So I've been trying to preach to him to you know, just let it fly Even if you don't have the most clear look We we got to start taking looks take a shot crash the boards um, you know, especially because the goalie's not always going to catch it and uh Yeah, we well, thankfully we were able to get one against underwood Uh, we're starting to see some more shots, you know on the stat sheet Um But yeah, it still needs to be more still needs to be more. That's for sure Is that something where the younger kids? I mean by now connor We're almost at the end of april these younger kids have to understand you make a mistake We're not going to crush you for this. Are they starting to get a little more confidence when it comes to that Yeah, I think so I don't know. Yeah, I think you're right though that I don't know if you know if they're thinking like oh if I if I shoot and I miss like coach's gonna be mad or You know, whatever, but uh, no, we we've been preaching to him like just just shoot We're not going to be upset with you ever forever for shooting, um Because we don't do it enough. We're we're too timid sometimes we're too I would even say unselfish Um, and I've I've kind of been preaching to a couple of the guys like hey, it's okay to be selfish when you get inside that 18 Yeah, uh, don't don't feel bad. Just hold on to the ball and and take a shot Um, we're not going to always be able to find the perfect wide open shot. That's not going to happen Uh, you know, I don't happen every once in a while, but Don't be afraid to hold on to the ball And send one of the bat and just send one in there and see what happens So I think they are starting to figure that out and uh, yeah, hopefully we can get some more tomorrow Still counts as a goal no matter how it gets in there Connor. I know you always told me that I don't care if it If it sneaks in there or a perfect wide open shot as long as it hits the back of the net, you're a happy guys Exactly, uh, tell me about carol. That's uh, and actually we've got a nice little homestand before we kind of wrap up the season on the road You got carol krestin and then nevada as well and they're all going to come to boon So let's just worry about the next one. Tell me about carol. And what are you expecting from the tigers? Yeah, uh, obviously we we like playing at home. I think um, a lot of teams struggle to play on our field especially teams that You know, I have a have a home. I have a turf field at home So we always we always look forward to playing at home. Um, So just a little bit more slower of a game that than the other team is used to Uh, just with that natural grass Um, yeah, no carol's gonna be good. They're they're better than what they've been in years past. That's for sure Um, you know years past. That was always kind of a game that I thought this is a very You know a very winnable game, but um Uh, they're they're starting to improve a lot more. They're getting some more They got a good senior class or junior senior class They've you know, they've been young for years and their guys have stuck it out So they're going to have some quality players that uh, that uh are going to make it difficult for us So, uh, they're not going to be the best team we've played all year. That's for sure But um, they're not going to be they're not going to be a push over at all. Um, so we're going to have to We're going to have to show up We're going to have to be physical and our biggest thing right now that we're trying to focus on is just communicate We got to talk more to each other. Um, so if we could show up talk to each other Um and be physical um, and you know Play the way that we that they play in practice It almost seems like we practice harder than we play sometimes Um, so if we can, you know, put put all that together, I'm hoping we can put together a pretty good game Connor as always.
