Coaches Corner for August 28th: Danielle Lopez, DMACC Volleyball

with us on coaches corner KWB G gonna talk some DMACC volleyball today Daniel Lopez joining us as the Bears well it was like practice practice practice two a days finally get into school and then man did your schedule get after it and you guys were out in Rockford Illinois last weekend give me overall thoughts Daniel when you when you got a chance to kind of sit back home and boon and relax a little bit what'd you think about the trip to Rockford yeah it's really good really got to see really what we needed to work on there are some really good highlights you know we we beat Pensacola who was ranked number eight in the country so that was a good pickup for us played really well against Gulf Coast went to four with them and they ranked number three in the country and then you know they'd pick up a loss we probably shouldn't know but learned a lot from that one so yeah some great things from that we always love going to that tournament and kind of tells us where we're at and what we need to do to prepare for conference as well well and then you guys get after it on a Monday night at Indian Hills coach you just said had been out in Illinois and then we want to head down to a Tom Wah huh yeah we definitely always want to play at Indian Hills you know they always bring in a lot of very tall international girls and always want to see kind of where our office is against that and our defense and how our block stacks up as well and yeah so didn't go exactly how we envisioned but we're excited to have another go at them at the end of the season well and I thought what was nice is after such a busy weekend in Illinois and then obviously back on Monday and then you get a day off to practice and then always difficult on a Wednesday night to have to go up to Mason City got a student section that's yelling in your ear and hollering and telling you all about how well they're probably saying some stuff we can't talk about on the radio but anyway after you dropped the first set I tell you what coach those next three bears came to play yeah they did um yeah it was kind of a wake-up call that first set girls kind of got their bearings and um you know really got after it saw some really good things that we were happy about um you know we're really aggressive with our offense and our our defense was getting some really good touches um and making some really good plays uh so we're really really impressed with that um and Nike has a has a really good team this year and they're really scrappy and they're really gonna make a push in conference too so um yeah we were really really happy to get that win anything you had to talk to the girls about or do some of those times you just have to kind of settle in and okay here we go um yeah just settling in and then just making sure that you know we're staying disciplined in all of our aspects as well um you know it's easy to forget some of our fundamentals and um you know when it gets chaotic to to go back to old habits and not stay disciplined with DMACC volleyball so just making sure that um you know we we stay with with the culture that we've built and um stay with DMACC volleyball a couple girls I wanted to talk about uh today coach and first one was Indy Johnson and what she's kind of meant to the team so far this year I know uh recently she had I think it was I might have been the game against Muskegon but had like 28 digs or something she looks like she's really getting after that volleyball to start the season for you yeah she has really developed very well into um that libero role for us as she's really um reading the ball well in defense getting great touches on it on the ball yeah we're really happy with her development and um really comfortable with her in that leading that back row for us um and she had a great game yesterday um really getting really great touches and um you know she doesn't really let the ball hit the ground without a body going with it so um yeah for she's really a great asset for us sounds like Malia Clayburg has really stepped in as well coach she had a nice week and I know out in Illinois and looked like played pretty well in these uh first two matches uh back in on Iowa soil tell me about Clayburg a little bit yeah um we're really excited about her um she she's got a really aggressive swing and she's not afraid to to swing and that's something that we're really pushing this year is um being a very aggressive offense um I know in the past couple years we've kind of been a little more timid and really mixed up our shots a lot more but this year we're all about kind of just really swinging a lot more whether we're out of system in system um and everybody swinging and she's um got a really really heavy arm and um so we're really happy with her um being able to put balls away well you got uh the weekend off uh a rare weekend off for the for the ladies and then boy do you get after it next week Kirkwood comes to town on Wednesday uh Tuesday the eighth then you got to head out to a Norfolk Nebraska then Iowa Lakes on the 10th I mean boy you got some heavy hitters to get started here Danielle I know you got to play him at some point during the season a couple of times but boy right out the chute here we go yeah you know it's it's never what you want to either have Kirkwood or Iowa Central you know your second conference game of the season but um you know you got to play him at some point and uh at least we get him at home this year both of them so we're happy about that and um to not have a a tournament this weekend kind of gets our girls a chance to um to reset and you know have our main focus be Kirkwood so so we'll be ready Danielle as always thank you so much for some time best of luck and next
