Joining us on coach's corner KWB G get a chance to talk some matter baseball today Bryce Dean joining us as the Tigers But I tell you what coach real nice doubleheader sweep last night 29 runs in two games I know it's tough to really look at that and be too complacent, but I just tell me about the sticks last night Boy, they really came to play both games Yeah, you know the last couple weeks we've been Or one through four one through five have been good We've been kind of we've been kind of waiting for the bottom half of our order to come along and last night It was one through nine everybody's putting the ball and play everybody's being patient at the plate Charged some of those games when you don't necessarily have a lot of strike throwers on the other team where you get a little antsy Up at the plate saying I want to hit I want to hit I want to hit but I mean I Don't have in front of me right now, but I think we drew 20 something walks last night combined in both games and that's you know, it's It's our good, but one of the things we've emphasized this year is we need to get on base It doesn't matter how whether it's reach on air walk hit And last night was perfect example of what are good to have the opportunity put the ball and play they did when they But they were patient and counts and good opportunities that What Central Valley gave us? Did that did that confidence kind of spill over coach? You had a real nice victory against Woodward Granger on Monday. Did that confidence maybe spill over a little bit to Tuesday? Yeah Monday, you know, we had a rough couple of weeks and drop six in a row and But some of our guys over the weekend and some of our leaders and Kind of told them that hey, we got a like district pairings come out next week Like this is a big week for us in terms of Where do you want to be? Do you want to be a seven feet or do you want to be a three or a four feet in a district? Or even a two-seat if We keep winning games this week And they responded well leave I coper through An amazing game on Monday through seven innings Give up five runs only one of them was earned and then Colby Owens You know, he was a tying double in the top of the seventh Then he comes in eighth and ninth inning and they should fix batters gets four strikeouts and We score one in the top of the ninth and it was a complete team win on Monday, and you know with Anytime whether it's Woodward Ogden Those rivalries Doesn't matter how good either team is, you know, it's always probably gonna come down to that last inning and who wants it more Who's who's gonna make? The fewest mental mistakes and it was good to see our guys respond. Well that way on Monday and It's always nice to go down to Granger and get a win Well, you kind of mentioned Levi co-cler a little bit coach. He's been Lights out when I look at you know tenor and runs He's given up now and in four starts six appearances on the year Feels like when co-cler gets out there if that defense can play like we know that they can Well, you have a real good chance to win almost against anybody it feels like Yeah, would he I leave I've taken a big jump this year and it started in the offseason for him where You know when we started throwing in the winter. He was Like he's one of those kind of people cliche, but I mean he was first one there last one to leave He's taken a big step this year From a leadership perspective, we don't have any seniors on this team We're looking to that junior class and he's been one that when he takes the ball in the mound It's he wants it. He demands it And he goes out there. He's like He's turning into more of a breakout pitcher, but he's still not quite there yet And he's trust in his defense and our defense is making plays behind them and but you said when our defense is on it It really does feel like that. We can compete and beat just about anybody Couple of hitters. I wanted to talk about this week I called that be obviously one and McCoy Cooley and the fun thing too is we're talking about two freshmen here now I know they had a ton of you know playing time and experience last year But Bryce the big key. What do you do from one year to the next year? So what have you seen from Cole and McCoy from year one to now year two? Yeah, I think I'll start with Cole and he's just he's been more comfortable You know, he's a kid who's played a lot of baseball throughout his life. So it for him It's not oh, I'm a freshman out here on a baseball field playing varsity baseball. It's I'm a second-year varsity player And really every time he steps on the field He's he's just playing the game that he's played since he was five years old and you know, he's finally coming along with his arm after pairing his labrum and football season It was good to see we finally got him throwing a bullpen yesterday. So we're trying to ramp him up a little bit But batting wise, I mean he he's very disciplined at the plate Hits the ball hard when it's a tall field Doesn't show it and the Stats, but I mean he's a threat to steel base Whenever so and then McCoy, you know this year we kind of challenged him He worked his butt off catching wise. I was DJ all off season and We challenged him to want to catch every single game and every single inning and so far this year he has And you know it As a freshman it can be When you have six games in five days this week you start getting those heavy lays and you can start in the batting average tip But with him I still put in the ball like he's still been put in the ball and play. He's still disciplined. He's getting on base So it's been good for those two and They're best friends that hang out together all the time and it's good to see Some of our freshmen stepping up and leadership roles as well as and a freshman. I'm a second-year varsity baseball player On a team that like we said has no seniors that means that needs that leadership Well, you got a big week as you already talked about three games down three more to go You obviously get an opportunity with Perry on Thursday night And then you get the double header with van meter on Friday night It feels like two double headers in one week Bryce. That's a lot But I'm looking at your pitching and what you've thrown out so far I'm knocking on wood as we speak because I don't want you to burn up at too many here the first couple of games But it feels like you might be okay this week for pitching Yeah, and that's a that's a big credit to our former assistant Brock Taylor and our Current assistant pitching coach Alex Foster of He hasn't We're not just rolling arms out there because they can throw the ball if someone's going out there as We trust that they're going to be able to throw strikes But the moment in the varsity game is not going to be too big for them But for most double headers this year, we've been fortunate to get only used three or four arms like Last night, I know we had to use three arms in the second game just with some free bases and Stuff from a couple of guys, but I had counter-pedicord through a complete game in game one And when you take care of business on the offensive end That stuff becomes a lot easier to manage But yeah, I think we probably out of our 16 varsity guys And of them 11 of them I feel comfortable putting out there in a In a game and I mean we could see all 10 or 11 of them Out of the rest of the week minus the device and see through a hundred on Monday That's a nice. Hey Bryce. That's a nice problem to have by the way
Well, hey best of luck coming up here with Perry and then obviously the van meter a double header on Friday We'll talk to you again here real soon. Bryce. Thanks for some time. Thanks, Brian. I appreciate you You bet Bryce Dean again joining us Madry baseball here on coaches corner
