Coaches Corner for October 6th: Jenni Winter, Ogden Volleyball

with us on coaches corner KWB G gonna talk some Ogden volleyball Jenny Winter joining us a lot of stuff going on with the Bulldogs right now including a postseason we'll find out more about Ogden's journey coming up on Thursday but before that coach I want to go back to Southeast Valley that's the last time I had a chance to see the ladies and I thought really first set and third set were tremendous I know the second set got a little dicey there at the end Southeast Valley got on a real nice roll from the service line and you watch enough volleyball you know that sometimes that can make her or break you for a night but really thought the girls in the grand scheme of things there's a lot of distractions going on last week let's be honest there was homecoming but I thought they had a really nice win for you last Thursday yeah I was really happy with how they played last Thursday I think you know I said anybody that talks to me here's the same story about just the challenge of homecoming week is just it's just really hard um for to remain focused so to go you know early on in the week we went to Erlum and got two conference wins there um in those best of five and then to come back Thursday for Southeast Valley I really thought that they brought really great energy really stayed focused and probably what I heard the most from family friends you know crowd was just how the girls really played for each other and you could tell that they were having fun with lots of smiles and and really just kind of got after it as a team and and I think when we do that you really see the strength of this team again in that second set right they came back but want to focus on we weathered the storm finished it out um so yeah very happy with with that play went into the magic tournament on Saturday the day the morning after the homecoming dance went two and two there and and was really happy even you know we we took Webster City to three and really competed at times with Engine Christian too so overall from last week really happy with the progress happy with last night would have liked to get that South Hamilton uh match it was you know going three with them is um was close good team um again just need to really focus in on playing a little bit more consistent across all of those sets Jenny I know you've coached a lot of volleyball volleyball I know you've watched a lot of volleyball have you ever coached that much volleyball in a week though I mean you had you had two matches that you know last week on Monday you had Southeast Valley then you had four at Madra then you had three more last night Jenny that's a lot of volleyball even for you who I know is a gym rat it is a lot of volleyball but you know uh Ryan there's only one person to blame for the schedule and that's me oh okay okay uh you know I think that you know I think there are some challenges with you know as you as you put your schedule together for that next season you know there are just some unknowns of things that you don't know um the madrid tournament it did change from one weekend to the weekend that it was held this year um you know these conference triangulars changed things a little bit for us so you know you do your best to try to spread out your games um but then just some you know just some things change um that you just don't really foresee like typically homecomings a little earlier for us um and then this year it was a little bit later so again just trying to trying to figure out a way to kind of manage that um you know given some days off you know also helps to kind of help the girls recover a little bit we've got a long stretch again next week where we won't have a game um in the past there's been the the conference tournament has been held in that week so that's in that went away so again just some changes in the schedule I'm happy with how they performed we'll look at making some changes um I've got my email already drafted up for read for hey let's look at making some changes for this next year but again scheduling's on me so I take that one well Jenny that boy like I said there's a lot of stuff that kind of went down in a short period of time number one you break the school record in the season for victories Jenny this is something you and I and I bet you remember this we talked about this in August I don't remember if we talked about it on air if we talked about it off air but I remember you said the girls came to me and one of the goals was this year was to break that school record and I've looked at my schedule I think okay you know it's definitely possible but you know a lot of work's gonna have to be done and now Jenny we're sitting here before senior night you got 22 wins on the season yeah I'm really happy with that with the girls in setting that record um and you know their their original goal was 20 wins for this season so they've even surpassed you know surpassed that goal so um I think that that has helped them kind of motivate them in those close sets when we need some wins uh to to have that as in the back of their mind that that's a goal that they want to you know that they want to achieve so really happy with that um and again it's just an testament to this group of girls and how hard they work and the time that they've put in you know over the over the summer and into this season well and we talk about uh martin stale st mary's coming up tonight to to wrap up the uh the regular season and and also the conference portion of the season to Jenny and maybe that's something else that we should talk about too because with martin stale st mary's that comes in tonight if you were able to come up with a victory Jenny that that'd be five wins out of out of your eight conference games I would guess that would be pretty successful season yeah that was a goal that I had had visited with read about is you know really wanting to finish in the top four for our conference and that if we you know if we can get a win tonight um against martin stale that would get us to that to that fourth place um uh standing so that would be a good goal that we had set again martin stale's coming in you know um 11 and 9 so they're a very competitive team and we're really going to have to show up and come ready to play tonight in order to do that well something else I wanted to talk about before we let you go uh live Coleman uh I know it gets a chance to go into the augin record book she did on the same night actually last thursday coach tell me about live a little bit and uh getting a chance to enter back into some more records for augin volleyball you know it's interesting that you bring up records because I'm I'm looking at we just have so many records that are being set amongst the girls so live um live Coleman right now she holds she's the season 20 now she's the new 2026 season record holder she beat herself um so she's got 193 kills coming into tonight and then obviously you know more games to come so she'll she'll definitely continue to hold that she holds the career record for 4 470 she'll continue to add on to that she's also sitting at 477 career digs so 500 digs is usually typically a volleyball milestone so that's within reach for her and then we've got a really interesting thing going on with our career aces so live lead currently uh in our aces record with 124 for the career however macy bristley sits at 121 career aces so that record right is really kind of up in the air and they're really they're really challenging each other in it but they're also super supportive like last night macy bristley just set the season record holder for aces beating live and when live knew that it macy got that 51 kill she congratulated her and that's just super important and just says a lot about these girls and just supporting each other in and what they've done so i've also got lanie sescar she's sitting at 41 aces on the season so a lot could happen in these last couple of games you know as we wrap up the season um so and then lanie's at 465 career digs so like there's just tons of records that are just like floating in the in the wind right now i finally had to tell lanie she makes these wonderful posters for us every time we set a record and finally i had to say lanie we just got to wait and see i'm just killing you on the poster making so i need we just need to wait and see what happens we'll do an announcement tonight and then we'll just wait and see what happens when the season is said and done and we'll make one final poster for everybody and what they hold so again it's a great you know it's just a great um accomplishment for those girls they put in a ton of time um over their four years um and you know and then you've got ls set and assist records like it's just happening all over but again it's just their hard work and what they're committed to and it's just fun to watch and see that payoff yeah no question jenny as always thank you so much for some time we'll see you for martin stale coming up tonight all right sounds great see you tonight you bet jenny winter again joining us ogden volleyball here on coaches
