KWBG 09/02/26

Transcript

With us on coaches corner KWBG gonna talk some ad-ward football today as Brock Enkel joining us Tigers coming off the victory battle for the bridge last week knocking off Woodward Granger 32 to 8 and I guess first off Brock always nice to win the rivalry game always nice to get the trophy and and always nice to beat Woodward Granger what do you feel like walking out of the game on Friday night yeah you know at the end of the day our goal every week is to go one and know and and you know everything we're working towards is to win Friday night and we accomplish that so that's what I said to our kids is we we accomplished our goal right we want to go one and know each week and we did that we got a lot of things we got to clean up we'll floppy at times too many penalties and stuff but for the most part proud of our kids you know handling themselves handling the adversity in that game every year that game can be close and every year there's an adverse moments and and our kids battled through those better than we really ever have in the in the last couple years we've been playing them so it's fun to see and it's fun to see kids get after get excited and continue to improve from the week before Brock I know offensive line play is something really important to you and it's been important I think since probably since I watched you block back in the day when you were tied in for Madrid tell me about this younger group because it's a group you and I talked about in the preseason they were gonna have to grow up pretty quick what did you see out of them after week one yeah so we got four new four new starters on that offensive line and and the good part was we saw improvement from the Gatorage scrimmage to week one and we still got a ways to go in that regard but just to see them continue to to work and get better and then that want to piece and that's what we talk about all the time is you know we want you guys to get better every week but you as the individual need to come to practice every day with that mindset of I have to improve on this this this and that so it was good to see those guys come together kind of feel out the game their first varsity high school game you know against a two-way school in order danger who's really good and week one first time ever playing you know those are you know those are tough conditions and so it was fun to see those guys you know take a step in the right direction on Friday 261 yards rushing a coach you're able also rush for five touchdowns yes that offensive line to block quite a bit run blocking wise 47 attempts I tell you what those skill positions had a pretty nice night for you too yeah I I would agree you know I think this year's team is kind of fun to watch and I think we're we're pretty deep in that skill position group and I think I think moving forward I think it's going to be a tough matchup for any team we play in terms of who they got to stop and defend and do all the stuff because I feel like we're pretty deep and you know we can we can hurt you in quite a different a couple different ways so those guys did a good job of owning their role and take care of business when they're asked to make plays. Brock you have one of those just dynamic players in Jeven Severson and finding ways to get him the football and just allowing him to use his talents on the field you used him in the Wildcat a little bit last week tell us about kind of when that started to maybe be procurate you know through your mind a little bit where you're thinking okay this might be something we can do and then getting it in the game and it looked like he he stepped up pretty well yeah he's a special kid and I think you know I'm a run first guy and I think it's a little bit easier to get him the football and just taking snaps so him running with it so I think that's just you know we always want to find ways to get our best players the football and I think that's the easiest way to do it and he's done a good job kids have done a good job with adjusting to that you know there it seems like it's an easy transition but it's a little more complicated than most people think and yeah it was good to see that and work out pretty well on Friday. You also had an opportunity to do something I know it is big for you guys each and every week besides going one and no you want to be plus two in the in the turnover department and you get an interception and you're also able to block a punt that's such a key stat isn't it? Absolutely and that's something you know you look over the years and when I tally those up at the end of the year you know we've been pretty good I think that two years ago when we were playing in the semi-finals I think we were actually even right on the mark and that's pretty rare for for school to get that far and be even in that turnover margin so that's that's definitely an area where we are focused on being at our best because we feel like that that will help us win football games if you can if you can take the football way and you take care of it and you can gain those couple extra possessions I think that's a I think that's a big big deal. Brock week one to week two coaches have told me this since the beginning of time I'm almost positive but they say that is the biggest improvement what where do you think you'll see the biggest improvement on Friday night? Yeah biggest thing is penalties you know we got to be a little bit more disciplined in what we're doing technique wise so we're not getting some of those stupid ones and just being smarter as we're as we're going throughout the course of the game so I think penalties are the biggest one we want to clean up and some of the execution things on some of our plays we want to run this week there's some there's some individual things we we talked about in film that we need to clean up and pretty much I think we gave pretty much every position group stuff they need to they need to work on this week and we want to start to see the things we practice throughout the week start to transition and translate on the field Friday night so all of our position groups got stuff we want to see on Friday and then the biggest thing as a team perspective would be would be taking taking care of those stupid penalties final thing coach I know how much you love jumping in a bus and taking a long trip but tell me about the trip to North Mesca on Friday night yeah they're they're a tough team they always have tough physical kids so just looking out at the roster and stuff they got some big big dudes man they got some big kids that get after a couple names we've seen play for the last couple years and we just got to be ready to go and be able to match them physicality wise and and continue to put our best foot forward Brock is always thank you so much for some time we'll see you next week they dropped me on you bet Brock Inckeligan joining us battered football here in coaches corner
