The Madrid volleyball team won the opening set but Colfax-Mingo rallied for a 3-1 victory in a non-conference volleyball match Tuesday, September 1, at Colfax-Mingo High School.
The Tigers came out strong, edging Colfax-Mingo 25-23 in the first set.
The host school responded by taking control of the match, winning the next three sets 25-11, 25-19 and 25-20 to secure the victory.
Madrid received a balanced offensive effort led by Iyla Fine, who recorded a team-high 13 kills.
Savannah Bradley added nine kills, while Jaela Hansen had six kills.
Rylin Velky led the Madrid offense with 28 assists.
Defensively, Paige Richards led the Tigers with 16 digs.
Fine also had 16 digs, while Bradley chipped in 15 digs.
Lillie Benton and Hansen each recorded a block for the Tigers.
Richards finished with three service aces, while Bradley and Abby Williams each added two aces.
Fine was a perfect 17-for-17 serving, and Bradley went 15-for-15.
As a team, the Tigers served at a 90 percent success rate.
The loss dropped Madrid to 2-1 on the season, while Colfax-Mingo improved to 4-2.
Madrid returns to action Tuesday, September 8, when the Tigers travel to Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center for a West Central Activities Conference matchup.
