Coaches Corner for September 30th: Brock Hinkel, Madrid Football

with us on coaches corner KWB G gonna talk some Edward football today Brock ankle joining us the Tigers with a boy tell you what real dominant effort last Friday night against a real good ACGC team coach I don't know where to start because I mean this is an ACGC team that you know had 27 plays against you 67 total yards you guys end up putting up 59 plays for the night which is tremendous when I look at you know possessing the football Brock I'll let you pick where do you want to start the offense or defense here yeah I think I think defense is the the start with how good they played I think our defensive coaches put a great game playing together and maybe easy for kids and they they could play fast and executed and it was fun to see guys fly around a little bit on the defense side of the ball and and truly take on their their keys and reeds and like I said could just play fast and physical all all game well and you got a couple of turnovers to recover to fumble and and Deppy also comes up with an interception for you you really got it done on that side of the ball yeah they did they did a really good job when you could simplify some things and have guys just play fast I think that's exactly what we want to do well and then offensively coach 236 yards on the ground you had 56 rushing attempts I know the weather was it conducive to to going crazy through the air but boy if you can get that done on the ground you got to kind of keep going with it don't you yeah we were we were solid there we had too many mental mistakes on offense and that's getting cleaned up this week for sure but overall please obviously a cgc is a good team and have good players and it was fun to see our guys compete with them for sure tell me about the offensive line Brock I know that's something we talk about each and every time we get together but this was a very young unit when you and I first spoke back in in August and now that we're at the end of September how have they grown together yeah they're they're getting better each and every week and you can see that and you know when when we saw a little bit different defense than we originally thought nothing crazy different but just slightly different and our kids did a better job adjusting to some things there and yeah it's fun to watch these guys grow up and and just get better each and every week get more confident each and every week get more physical each and every week so it's fun to watch these guys guys grow for sure well and Brock this was and this is nothing against your other games we could probably go back to Woodward Granger but this is probably your second biggest game of the season now Woodward Granger of course is a school that's bigger than Madrid and and ACGC I mean this is a good little rivalry going with two West Central activity conference teams this was nice to see the kids really rise to the occasion and your two maybe biggest games of the year you've given up eight points yeah and I think you know we kind of want to play good teams when if you want to make runs in the playoff I think you got to play good teams throughout the regular season and we certainly have those on our schedule I think we have one of the best districts in class a top-to-bottom and you know our non districts are ACGC and Woodward Granger so I think that just speaks volumes for our team in terms of we don't really care who we're playing and it doesn't matter and I think that's kind of the approach you have to have if you want to make some runs in the playoffs so kids are doing a good job taking it one game at a time as well and I know you said there was a big one and it was a big one because it was the next one just like this week play Linville Sully it's a big one it's because it's the next one so just please with our kids for continuing to grow and get better each and every week coach this is a sneaky good one in my opinion you and Linville Sully always seem to have some really good matchups now maybe we don't have two undefeated teams here but we got a couple of teams that this should be a good one Friday night absolutely and Linville's only losses to top ranked 1A Pleasantville team so just like always coach Parkinson's gonna have those guys ready to go and they're they're big they're physical they're athletic all across the board there so we got to have our stuff on point and be ready to go to play against a really good team so I'm excited to get back home playing from our home home crowd here I think that'll give us a little bit of an advantage as well and just looking forward to it coach seems like they've got a little bit of youth this year that's been playing I see a lot of sophomores and juniors is that kind of what you guys are seeing too yeah for sure but it's just like any year you know we've been playing Linville Sully a while now and it doesn't really matter they got a good thing going coach Parkinson's culture and they always just kind of reload with big strong physical athletic kids so we're not we're not approaching this any different than you know when we played them back in 2022 and they had all state players all over the place as a semi-final team you know we're approaching it the same way they're going to be a tough physical team and we got to be ready to go for sure kids got to be excited for this one too coach you guys get together you know on the football field and I know maybe sometimes run a little track but this has been kind of a nice little sneaky rivalry actually absolutely you know it's you know been top of the the district the last couple years and I just have a lot of respect for them and and I'm hoping they have some respect for us too but yeah it's been fun you know I always like playing Linville just because we get a good evaluation of where our teams at based on physicality wise how good we really are and I think I think it should be a good one I think it'll be a good atmosphere I think it'll just be a beautiful Friday night with no rain out of now so I'm really looking for to that part but no should be a good one we're excited Brock I have to ask you even though I know it's just the first one but the first rankings came out from the Association rank number four how'd you feel when you saw your your team as high as it was yeah I mean I think anytime the voters or evaluators or whoever is in charge of the rankings we feel good that they value us as the top 14 but like I told our guys that means nothing we got to finish the season now we got to take this thing one game at a time I really want to know the week eight after week eight rankings as opposed to after week five so we're trying to block that out as of now we appreciate how those voters and rankers feel about our program and where we're at right now but like I said our kids can't take take too much into that to their head and or whatever it is and we're gonna we're gonna let those guys do that that's out of our control anyway so we're pleased to be to be there and if we keep taking care of business hopefully we can keep it or whatever but you know try not to talk too much about it right now you but Brock is
