Council Receives RAGBRAI Presentation

KWBG 04/03/18

BOONE, Iowa—The Boone City Council received a presentation Monday about the RAGBRAI route through Boone.  Kris Blocker, CVB Manager with the Chamber of Commerce and Andy Bartlett, Manager of the Ledges State Park, have been heading up the committee that’s working on handling visit of thousands of bicyclists and their support vehicles to Boone.

The RAGBRAI route will take riders from Jefferson to Grand Junction then to Dana onto Ogden then Boone, down through the Ledges State Park, to Luther and on to Ames.  What the Council heard was more about the route in Boone.  The current plan calls for prohibiting traffic on much of Mamie Eisenhower from the west side of the city to Story Street and then Story Street south from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.  A few crossings will be maintained for traffic, one Mamie at Montana, Ringold, Marion, Division and Greene Streets.  On Story Street, crossings will be maintained at 1st Street, Park Avenue, Crestwood Drive and Hawkeye Drive.  The main center for activity is planned for South Story Street between Hancock Drive to Hawkeye Drive.

The Council did approve a resolution granting the RAGBRAI Committee the authority to oversee activity associated with the RAGBRAI celebration on July 24th.  Boone Mayor John Slight said on Tuned In Tuesday morning that all the public safety agencies are involved with the planning.
