Elizabeth Savonell

KWBG 06/25/26

Elizabeth (Liz) Savonell, 101, Boone, Iowa

BOONE, Iowa—Elizabeth Eddy Savonell, 101 years young, beloved mother to seven children, passed away at Westhaven Community on December 30, 2025.

Elizabeth (Liz) Savonell was born in Boone, Iowa on July 7, 1924 to Arthur J. and Margaret Chamberlain Eddy. Liz attended Boone schools and graduated from Boone High in 1943. After graduating from high school, she traveled to Washington State to work for Boeing building the new B29’s. While there, Liz met William (Bill) Savonell and they married a month after their first meeting. Upon Bill’s entering the Marine Corps they moved to various places in California. In 1946 they boarded a train for Boone to visit Elizabeth’s family. This “visit” lasted until her death in 2025.

Liz worked with Bill as a ‘mechanic’s assistant’ at Bill’s Complete Service and the Short Stop. At the Short Stop Liz meticulously washed cars, pumped gas and checked oil when required. She was an active member of Grace Episcopal Church and served on the altar guild and St. Catherine’s Guild. She enjoyed playing bridge with a number of life-long friends and was a member of the women’s club and she and Bill were members of the couple’s bridge club. She was an avid reader especially enjoying her romance novels and enjoyed many ‘crafty’ activities specifically the plastic canvas angels show would give away too everyone she met.

Retirement found Liz and Bill in Okeechobee, Florida, where they enjoyed fishing and spending time outdoors. They also loved to travel in their motor home and were quite proud of saying they visited 50 states as husband and wife. They did need to find alternate means of travel to Hawaii, as the motor home wasn’t equipped for an ocean voyage! Bill and Liz had to find alternate means of travel to Hawaii, as the motor home wasn’t equipped for ocean travel. Liz returned to Boone in 2008 where she resided until her death.

Liz was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, son, Carl (1972), sister, Marjorie (1995), brother, Charles (2017) and her parents, Arthur and Margaret Eddy.

She is survived by daughter Jo (Curtis) Lindskog of Boone, Mary Savonell of Boone, Donna (John) Fitzgerald of North Carolina, Beth (Darrell) Christianson of Boone, Phoebe (Roy Shapiro) Chamberlain of Massachusetts, and son, Mark Savonell (Cindy Parsons-Schmidt) of Arkansas, nine grandchildren (Kurt, Ani, Tracey, John Carl, Tiffany, Heather, Patrick, Kristen and Ashley) and 15 great grand children. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Wirtz of Boone, plus many nieces and nephews.

Liz requested a memorial service and celebration of life be held in July when weather is better and more family and friends are able to travel to Boone.

Mom’s Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026 beginning at 1:30 PM at Grace Episcopal Church with communion service, immediately followed by inurnment at Linwood Cemetery (Section D). After inurnment a get-together with family and friends at the Boone County History Center (downstairs) at 602 Story Street for snacks and refreshments at approximately 3-4:30 PM, where we can share our memories of Liz. The Celebration will end the day with a catered dinner beginning at approximately 5:00 PM for family.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Elizabeth’s name may be made to Grace Episcopal Church, 707 8th Street, Boone, Iowa.
