Excessive Heat Watch Issued Wednesday Afternoon through Friday Afternoon

DES MOINES, Iowa—The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Watch for much of Iowa, Wednesday afternoon to Friday afternoon.

...Hot and Humid Conditions Expected Later this Week...

.Hot and humid conditions are expected later this week across much
of central Iowa. Air temperatures are expected to be as high as
the middle to upper 90s in places especially on Thursday and
Friday. This heat, combined with the humidity, will result in heat
index values as high as 100 to 110. Little relief is expected
overnight with lows as warm as the middle to upper 70s.

...EXCESSIVE HEAT WATCH IN EFFECT FROM WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON
THROUGH FRIDAY AFTERNOON...

The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued an
Excessive Heat Watch, which is in effect from Wednesday afternoon
through Friday afternoon.

* TEMPERATURE...Heat index values as high as 105 to 110 due to
  temperatures in the middle to upper 90s, and dewpoints as high
  as the lower to middle 70s.

* IMPACTS...Heat-related illnesses may occur due to the prolonged
  period of heat and humidity.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

An Excessive Heat Watch means that a prolonged period of hot
temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and
high humidity will combine to create a DANGEROUS SITUATION in
which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay
in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on
relatives and neighbors.
