
The Ogden softball team’s season came to an end Friday, July 10, as Grand View Christian held off the Bulldogs for a 7-6 victory in a Class 2A Region 1 semifinal played at Hoover High School in Des Moines.
Dakota Jones led the way with two hits and two runs scored, while Clara Kruse also recorded two hits and an RBI.
Grace Christensen collected a hit and drove in three runs.
Aubrey Leonard, Adi Banks and Harleigh Janssen each added an RBI.
Additional hits came from Sophie Seligman, Lauren Mathews and Sophia Moorman.
Mathews also scored a run for Ogden, while Sidney Crane, Layla Wells and Kenzie Banks crossed the plate during the one-run defeat.
Katie Wilcoxson pitched a complete game and struck out three batters in the loss.
The Bulldogs finished the season with a 21-17 overall record and a 9-11 mark in the West Central Activities Conference.
Grand View Christian improved to 26-3 and advanced in regional play.
The Thunder beat West Marshall, 12-4, Monday, July 13, and advanced to the state softball tournament in Fort Dodge next week.
Grand View Christian will play Cardinal (16-10) at 10 a.m. Monday, July 20, at Hy-Vee Field in Rogers Park.
Christensen finished the year as Ogden’s leading hitter with 64 hits and tied for second on the team with 35 RBIs.
Kruse added 48 hits and 35 RBIs, while Seligman contributed 41 hits and 34 RBIs.
Jones closed the season with 39 hits, and Banks produced another outstanding offensive campaign with 38 hits and a team-best 41 RBIs. Mathews also reached the 30-hit mark, finishing with 30 hits.
Wilcoxson anchored the pitching staff all season, compiling 18 victories and 122 strikeouts.
