Iowa Retail Diesel Priced at $3 per Gallon

DES MOINES, Iowa—The weekly report from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship also keeps track of energy prices in Iowa.  This week the report shows the price of natural gas rose $.12 this week, closing at $2.63/MMbtu.

Crude Oil Summary

  • The price of global crude oil fell this week on the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) by $2.76 per barrel over last week, currently priced at $63.08.
  • Brent crude oil fell $2.74, and it is currently priced at $71.64.
  • One year ago, WTI crude sold for $67.25 and Brent crude was at $74.85.

Motor Fuels

  • As of Tuesday, April 30, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $2.74 across Iowa according to AAA. This is $.01 higher than last week and $.05 higher than one year ago. The national average on Tuesday was $2.88, up $.01 from last week’s price.
  • Retail diesel fuel prices in Iowa were up $.01 from last week’s price with a statewide average of $3.01. One year ago, diesel prices averaged $3.02 in Iowa. The current Iowa diesel price is $.09 less than the national average of $3.10.
  • Wholesale ethanol prices were a penny lower than last week’s price, currently at $1.31
  • The current Des Moines Terminal/Rack Prices are $2.02 for U87-E10, $2.24 for Unleaded 87 (clear), ULSD#2 is at $2.16, ULSD#1 is at $2.52, and E-70 is priced at $1.62 per gallon.

Heating Fuels

  • Propane prices were down $.07 from last month for a statewide average of $1.25 per gallon. Home heating oil was up $.08 from last month’s figures, ending with a statewide average of $2.54. Natural Gas prices rose $.12 at the Henry Hub reporting site and currently priced at $2.63/MMbtu.
  • Continuing throughout the summer months, we will only report retail heating oil and propane prices in Iowa once a month.
