Joining us on our senior spotlight on KWBG, we're heading to Madrid, talk to Chase Perkins today. And Chase and I are just kind of visiting all fair. And Chase, I know this hasn't been the senior year on the football field that maybe you wanted, but you get a chance to come back. And by the time we're playing this, you're going to be on the field. Boy, you got to be super excited to get back on that field. Yeah, real excited, real excited to get back and be able to play in the playoffs. What's this past week of practice been like? I know you got cleared. So what was it like getting back on the practice field and being able to do some things? Felt good, felt good to get back and be able to play. Is that one of those things? And I think we've all gone through injuries when it comes to sports. And you have to know what your body's ready to do. But I know you also, it's senior year, you want to get back out there. Did you push yourself a little hard to get back out there? Yeah, I definitely want to get back and just a lot of therapy and push myself to get back. What was it like when you're getting closer and you're starting to feel pretty good and you're starting to maybe make some cuts and some things that are feeling okay, that kind of feels normal again. What was it like when you finally got clearance? Felt good, I mean, being able to, you know, cutting everything in it felt good. And I was just like, I'm ready to go. But you get that clearance, Chase. That's got to put a pretty big smile on your face when Doc says, hey, you're good to go. You can play if coaches are ready to have you. Yep. Tell me about what you've been able to do the last couple of weeks, because you've had to mentor a little bit and you get a chance to help Deppie, I know, at quarterback and do some other stuff with the defense as well. Is that kind of something you embraced a little bit? Yeah, just helping them out, you know, reading the defense and stuff like that. Is that where you're, are you watching more film then when you're on the sideline, Chase? Tell me about what it's like a week for, you know, one week you're starting quarterback, next you got to sit for a little bit. What are you able to do to kind of help the team? Yeah, going back to continue to watch film, you know, help team as much as I can and just give advice and just continue to lead. That's what you're supposed to do for sure. All right, Chase, let's talk school. I won't make you talk football the whole time because everybody wants to know what's going on with Chase Perkins. So tell me about school. How's the first couple of months been at Madrid? Good. Good start to my senior year so far. All right, are you pretty busy with the first semester schedule and classes and whatnot? Not really. I only have, I think, four classes or five classes. So I mean, I got a pretty relaxed first semester. Chase, are you telling me that maybe you loaded that schedule up the first three years knowing that senior year you'd like to, I don't know, have a little freedom? Yeah, exactly. All right, so tell me about what classes are you taking? Give me a couple of the classes you're taking your first semester. Pretty much all core classes like statistics and physics and government and an AP English class or something like that. Okay, now what class are you enjoying going to, Chase? There's got to be at least one on this schedule that you at least enjoy or have a good time when you're in it. Probably government. I mean, it's probably the easiest out of the four and I got a couple of friends in there. That always helps, that always helps, that always helps. So tell me about future a little bit, Chase, what stuff you're taking right now and then we're gonna fast forward you a little bit to May. Diplomas in hand, Chase, what does a future look like for you next year? I think I'm gonna go to college, study exercise science. Okay, what got you involved in that? I mean, I've always loved sports and helping people and just always kind of was interested in a field like that. So was that an avenue? Has that been recent or has this been something that you've been thinking about for a while? I think I've been thinking about it for a while. I've always kind of thought about getting into that. I got you. All right, now college choices are always interesting with my seniors. I swear you guys are 50-50. Some of you tell me, hey, if I can be a couple hours away, that's close enough. Some wanna go really far away. Where are you sitting at, Chase? You wanna be close-ish to home or what's the location that would be good for you? Yeah, I would say closest. Maybe an hour or two away, it's fine, but within the state of Iowa, probably. I got you. Now, is there anything, once we get done with sports senior year, are we game over, we're fine, we were good with that, or are we thinking maybe we wanna go on and do something else? I think we're gonna be done with it, just focused on school. Be a college kid, that's okay too. Give me some things you're still looking forward to. Obviously, I know you're gonna say football playoffs, you wanna play in the dome, I know all that stuff, I'm gonna steal that answer from you. What are some other senior year things that you're looking forward to, Chase? I'm looking forward to just track and lifting up for football and just kinda chilling in my senior year, I guess. I got you, I got you. Now, what do you like to do when you're away from the fields and away from track and away from, I'm gonna take you away from school too. What do you like to do when you're off time?
Well, right now, it's kinda just chilling. On the weekends, I'll watch football, I'll play video games and then work. Now, I know I had a couple of seniors earlier that told me, are you part of this Roblox community? I'm hearing a bunch of you guys like to get together and do this, are you one of these? I mean, yeah, I'll play with my friends and we'll play some games. I got you, I got you. For some reason, the gaming community seems to be huge, Chase. You guys like to get together and talk maybe a little trash over these headsets, huh? Yeah, of course. Gotta do that, gotta do that. Chase, I'm gonna let you go with one last thing and we always like to ask our seniors a little piece of advice for incoming freshmen when they come in. So, Chase, if a freshman came in and said, hey, I wanna have a great four years at Madrid, give me some advice. What do you think you might tell them to do? I'll say just work hard in the off season. I mean, all that work pays off in the end and then make memories with your friends and teammates. Well, that's good advice. Chase, thank you so much for giving us some time. Have a great senior year. Yep, thank you. You bet, that's Chase Perkins again joining us. Madrid Senior on our Senior Spotlight.
