KWBG Senior Spotlight: Liv Coleman, Ogden Senior

KWBG 09/04/26

Transcript

With us on our senior spotlight program on KWBG, gonna go to Ogden and talk to you, I live Coleman today about, well, being a senior, we'll talk some sports. And I didn't even ask her, she was busy this summer with like vacations and stuff. Liv, I didn't even ask you when you wanna go hang out with friends, what do you guys go do?

We like to go get a lot of fun drinks, like seven brew, you know, do some crafts. We did a lot of senior crafts this year, like senior jeans, senior scrapbook, bunch of fun stuff. Wait a second, did you say senior jeans? Yep. What are senior jeans? I must know. You just, you get a pair of jeans, whatever kind you want, and then you just get like fabric paint and just paint senior on them. You can do like your year, you can do a lot of things. I swim to the first day of school. I'm guessing this was probably done outside or did mom and dad let you do this like on the living room floor? No, I did it downstairs and on our, one of our tables, but I had to clean it up. Yeah, I was gonna say, that doesn't seem like that would be a very clean project. Yeah. Liv, I'm not a clean freak either, but I just, I'm thinking in my mind, if I let my 13 year old do that, what that would look like and it makes me scared. So I just said you had some busy time this summer with vacations, you had a chance to go to Arkansas and to Chicago. That's a pretty busy summer for you, Liv. Yeah, it definitely flew by really fast, but it was a good summer. What was that first day like when you walked in the gym and it was time for the last first pre-season practice? It was, well, we've been in the gym every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, so it wasn't a huge change, but it was just kind of like a bittersweet feeling because you're like, well, here we are. It's the last time for everything. That's cool. But what was the light? I mean, you get, I know you've got a pretty nice, and it's not a huge senior class, but it sounds like you guys are pretty tight-knit in that senior class, huh? Yeah, we have three seniors out for volleyball, so definitely down, but yeah, our senior class is good. But it sounds like you guys have a lot of fun. I was talking to Coach Winter, and you guys apparently came up with some tattoos last week. Can you tell me about that a little bit? Yeah, so it was actually a junior on our team. She ordered some of the tattoos of her face. We got a really bad picture of her coach, and we put those on for our first game, and they did not come off very easily, so I had those on for a couple of days. Liv, are those gonna make a return, or is that a one and done? I don't know. We'll have to decide, because I mean, we did not win, so I don't know if that was a bad luck thing, or we'll have to see. Oh, I think you need to bring them back. Plus, I need to see this picture, too, Liv. It wasn't a good flattering picture, huh? I mean, it was a bad angle, I would say. Good save, Liv, good save. Volleyball season, obviously, I know that's something that has been your passion for a long time. Liv, can you remember back, when did you start playing volleyball, and how many years have you now kind of been a part of this sport? Oh, well, I played for, it was like an AAU, it was called ACES, it was a couple of our moms in our grade that we just, we played over at the Wreck in Jefferson. That was, I don't, elementary, I don't know, and then middle school started, and then I played club for Iowa Heart for two years, and then O'Hana, my sophomore year, and then I've been playing all high school and middle school. Liv, this is a long time you've been a part of volleyball, then. Yeah, it's been a while, so it's kind of sad for it to be ending. No, I understand. Well, we got a lot of time left, it's only September, so we got a ton of volleyball left, and I guess that was my next question, Liv, volleyball's been a part of your life for so long, is it gonna be a part of your life next year? No, it is not, this will be my last season of it. I thought about it, but I've decided not to. Okay, so tell me about what next year is gonna kind of be like, Liv, graduation, let's pretend like a diploma's in hand, and you're looking forward to your post senior year. What are you gonna do as a freshman next fall? I plan to go to DMACC to finish a year of prerequisites for the dental hygiene program. Okay. And then I gotta apply to that, and I know there's a wait list, so I could be working for a bit, or I don't know. So what about it happen? Yeah, what's kind of the future look like, Liv, if you have the perfect career, and I say, hey, you get to do this for the rest of your life, what do you think the career would be looking like? Well, I would like to be a dental hygienist, possibly going into like, orthodontics assistant, maybe. Okay. And that feels, I don't wanna haul that stuff works, but, and then I do also like to do nails, so maybe get my nail license and have like a little side job kind of thing, only my own business would be fun. Okay, tell me about doing nails now. What's the coolest thing you did, either your nails or somebody else's? I don't, I've done so many nails, I don't even know. I change my nails like every single week, so I don't know. Do you like to do designs, or just different paint, you know, different colors, or what like? I like doing designs. Okay, okay, so did you do anything special for first volleyball? Like anything special on the fingernails? No, I did not, I just did like fun colors for my first summer, you know. Liv, you disappoint me, I was thinking you were gonna, like little volleyball or something on your fan, I mean, that would have been kind of cool, right? I could have, I didn't mind though, I still have time. You could have like painted Ogden on all your fingers too. That would have looked different. It would have been cool though, right? Yeah. See, that's why I'm a guy and I don't paint my nails, Liv, because I'm giving terrible ideas.

Tell me about school so far, what's it, what's it been like being a senior? Tell me about some classes, and just the first couple of weeks, what's it been like? Well, I've really enjoyed having the off-campus, so I have one through third period, then I have a little gap break, so I can just do my homework in the commons and stuff and catch up, and then I have fifth and sixth, and then I'm done for the day, so I can go home before volleyball. Wow, this is a pretty nice little schedule, Liv. Yes, I enjoy it. I'm guessing you've been looking forward to this for a while, huh? Yes, I've been trying to plan it so I can have a good schedule. Liv, you're being smart, that's a smart thing, you're not supposed to go in your senior year and have all your tough courses. Yeah. Exactly right, exactly right. All right, so we talked about what you're planning on doing next year. Tell me about this year though, besides volleyball, what are some other things you're looking forward to here your senior year? Well, so I'm looking forward to the volleyball season, obviously, then I'm wanting to coach AAU here at Ogden, I don't know how that works out though over the winter, and then we'll have golf season, and I might try a job shadowing a dental hygienist maybe. Okay. But yeah. And we got like homecomings and proms and dances and stuff too, right? Yep, you got all that stuff mixed in there, so not busy, kinda busy, I don't know. Liv, I think you keep yourself pretty busy. It feels to me like you're always kind of on the go, huh? Yes, I always have something. Okay, so how do you balance it, Liv, is you're busy with all the things? Are you like, do you have a planner? Do you do post-it notes? What do you do to make sure you know where you're going? Yes, I have a planner. I'm a very organized person. Like, if I'm having a day and something gets thrown off, it just makes me mad. Oh no. I guess something's not special, but I have to be very organized. Uh-oh, so when that radio guy sent an email that there was a senior spotlight, and you're like, wait a minute, that's not on my schedule. Yeah, no, okay, I was just like, well. That went, that was okay then? Yeah, that was okay. I had an off period, I'm good. I just wanted to make sure you weren't yelling at Ken or anything and get me in trouble. No, no, no. Okay, good, thank goodness. Well, Liv, I tell you what, I always ask my seniors one last question when we wrap up the interview and it's time for that. So, Liv, I need a piece of advice for a freshman. They come up to you and they say, Liv, I want to have a great four years at OHS. What do you tell them? Give them a little piece of advice. Oh, I don't, I would just say honestly, just like soak it all in. It just goes so quick. Like it does not feel like I'm a senior at all. I still feel like a freshman and I don't know. I just, you got to soak it all in. Do everything you can. Nope, that's great advice, that's great advice. Liv, thank you so much for some time on our senior spotlight program. Have a great rest of your senior year. We'll be watching. Okay, thank you. You bet, Liv Coleman again joining us on our senior spotlight on KWBG.
