With us on our senior spotlight, KWBG, get a chance to talk to Boone senior Patrick Couser today about, oh, we're gonna talk about being a senior so far. Almost a month in is a senior, believe it or not. So we'll talk about that and we'll talk sports and future and I don't know, Patrick, whatever else you wanna talk about, how about that? That's what we'll do today. Is that sound like a plan? So that sounds like plan. Tell me about senior year so far, my friend. You're almost a month into it. How's it been so far? Senior year's going great. You know, I've been, I've been having, I really don't have that many classes this year, but all the classes that I do have are over at DMACC actually. And so that's a great thing Boone's been doing. So been having fun with that a lot of work. I was gonna say though, Patrick, you have done this strategically because you don't just all of a sudden get an easy senior schedule. You had to load up your first three years, didn't you? Yeah, I did and not a whole lot of off time in those first three years, but it was all worth it. It's worth it right now though, isn't it? Yes, it absolutely is. All right, so tell me about, tell me about what you're doing at DMACC. What courses are you taking over there here first semester? So I'm working towards my two year degree from DMACC. So I'm in a general biology class. I take that four days a week. It has a lab, so that'll get me my science credit. And then I'm taking DMACC online macroeconomics. Which is the second part. I've already taken microeconomics.
I'm taking social problems, which is just a class discussing different topics on current world issues and things like that. I find it all very interesting. Patrick, I'm gonna have to agree. That sounds like a great class actually. Oh, it's great. Just get to learn about the issues and what we can do to help with them and how to raise awareness to all those. No, I think that sounds really, some of the other stuff, you know, you always kind of wonder what I use this, but boy, social problems, that stuff that you know what you're gonna see when you're like, why is all of a sudden my gas 444 gallon? Well, now we know. Exactly, exactly. Very, very life applicable class. Yeah, 100%. Okay, what else, because I interrupt you. What else are you taking over there? The final class I'm taking at DMACC is a DMACC composition class. But good enough, they teach that actually at the high school with a high school teacher, but it's still a DMACC level class. Okay, Patrick. So that's great. That's a cheat code, isn't it? It really is, it really is. Wow, that's amazing. Now, I always ask my seniors this and it seems like it's happening more and more, which I really appreciate that it is, because I think with DMACC right in town, you guys should take advantage. It's basically free college for you next year if you get things done this year. But my question for you, Patrick, is this, do you like the in-person or do you like the online more? You know, I don't know that I could give you a straight answer. I think you have to have a mix of both, depends on the class. Okay, that's fair. Hey, I think when it all first started and everybody was kind of doing the online stuff, I think they really enjoyed it, but I think they kind of missed the in-person a little bit too. Yeah, it's really tough. Certain classes like math and science would be very tough to do online. Absolutely agree. Yeah. Very, very hard classes to just learn by yourself. So those classes I've preferred to take in-person, but outside of that, anything online, I can stay home and do it. And you were gonna say, you were gonna say not have to worry about getting out of your jammies, weren't you? It's okay, Patrick. That's exactly what I was gonna say. You can say it, we ain't judging, we ain't judging. All right, so I know obviously very busy with school and Patrick, you keep yourself very busy with extracurricular activities and just other activities as well. So tell me, Patrick, how do you balance school and sports and other activities at your end? Well, I've been balancing it my whole life. So at this point, you'd think I'd get pretty decent at it, but even at times it's still pretty stressful because I'll have school and then go straight to practice. Some late nights maybe, but I will say with my lighter schedule this year, I've just about using my time efficiently. So my off time during the day needs to be spent doing some homework and the rest of the time can be spent doing anything else. All right, so Patrick, there's a million different ways that kids have told me that they balance schedules and know where they're going and whatnot. So I kinda wanna know what you do. Do you have, do you use your phone? Do you use apps? What do you use to know where you're supposed to be going? Well, I guess I don't use any of those, to be honest with you. So wait, are you writing this down, Patrick? Like in a little notebook or a postie? Or what are we doing here? No, just, I just kinda, just kinda go with the flow on it. Just gotta know where I need to be and get to it.
Patrick, I'm gonna give you kudos because that's a young memory because trust me, the older you get, my friend, you're gonna need the phone, the apps, the call it, everything, buddy, all the things. I'm giving you the dirty secret about getting older, okay? Oh no. Well, tell me about now, school year, because you've had a chance to be on the football field to get started this year. Tell me about football season so far. How's it treating ya? Oh, football season's gone great. I think we got a great group of guys together this year and everyone just loves to be out there and that's a fun team to play for. We started 2-0 and then dropped the game but I think we're gonna bounce back this week and we're gonna go beat Iowa Falls. Well, tell me about stuff off the field and away from school and all that stuff. Patrick, what do you like to go do with your friends when you're not worried about school or practices or any of that stuff? Well, over the summer I did a whole lot of golfing. That was my number one hobby to do this summer. Okay, hold on now, Patrick. How many rounds do you think you got in? Oh, I don't know. I probably, I was injured for a little bit of the summer but through starting in probably August, I probably got 10 to 15 rounds in. That's not bad. Now, we're talking nine, are we talking 18? Depends on the day. I love it, depends on the day. I think we all know those days for sure. So you like to go out and golf a little bit. What do you and the friends like to go do?
You and the friends, really? We just like to go out and eat to be honest with ya. We like to go out and get food wherever. Patrick, I'm not judging. I need to know your top three spots though. You don't have to tell me them in any order but to give me your top three spots if you and the boys are going out to grab something to eat. All right, well, when we're going to aim the staple after every football game, we always go to Perkins. Oh, smart, smart. 24 hour restaurant, get some breakfast for dinner, late dinner. Yeah, well, I like to call it Brenner but go ahead. Brenner, I like that. I like, yep, Brenner, I love me some Brenner. Go, okay, so Perkins is on the list. There's one, give me two more. My personal thing that I've always loved, I love going to McDonald's. It's so cheap, it's great. The fries are addictive, I'm just telling you, but anyway. Yeah, it's incredible. I've saved up some points too, so just keep going all the time. There you go, okay, there's two. So do we have a wild card for number three? A wild card for number three. I don't know that I'd call it a wild card. It's pretty basic. But I just love Poncheros. Anytime I can get over there. That's not a bad, listen. I'm telling you what, Patrick, you're three for three with me, my friend. Those all three are on my list for sure. All right, I gotta fast forward you a little bit. I'm off-tree. You got me talking about food, Patrick, and I got in trouble a little bit there. But anyway, I need to know about future plans, Patrick. You told, you kind of gave us a little glimpse about some stuff you wanna do in the future. But what's the future look like after graduation, Amai? What's things looking like for Patrick Hauser? So as I mentioned, I'm kind of working towards my two-year degree with DMACC. I should be about nine credits short of that when I graduate high school. And as I plan right now, Iowa State has a reverse transfer program where if I go to Iowa State, and then certain credits can transfer back to DMACC if the class is, I guess, compatible or the same as another class. And so I should be able to get my two-year degree pretty quick while at Iowa State and not at DMACC. I tell you what, Patrick, got her down. You got her down. Okay, tell me where the rest. And then after that, I think I'll stick it out at Iowa State. I plan to get a degree in finance. Okay. Start to work towards that wealth management. Any, like, if I could give you the perfect job right now, Patrick, and you're already graduated from college and everything degree in hand, what's perfect job for you at least right now? I would love to be a wealth manager that's working wealth management. 100% got you. All right, not a bad career. And I'm guessing you like numbers is what I'm gonna guess. I like numbers and I like getting to know people. I like talking to people. Oh, that's great. That's great. Well, Patrick, thank you so much for some time here on The Senior Spotlight. Have a great rest of your senior year. We'll be watching. All right, thank you. You bet. Patrick Housergan joining a senior at Boone on her senior spotlight.
