Larry Sampson

Larry Sampson, 77, Roland, Iowa

ROLAND, Iowa—Larry E. Sampson, 77, of Roland, Iowa, passed away at State Center Specialty Care in State Center, Iowa, on Saturday, June 20, 2026.

He was born on September 15, 1948, in Eldora, Iowa, the son of Leonard and Ethel (Weltha) Sampson. He graduated from NESCO High School and then enlisted in the US Army. Following his service in the Army, he was a semi driver, cattleman, and farmer.

Larry enjoyed hiking, gardening, shooting guns, reloading ammo, spending time with Marlys and family, and playing pranks and practical jokes on people.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marlys Sampson; brother, Jim Sampson; and parents, Leonard and Ethel Sampson.

Larry is survived by his sister, Faye Sampson of Roland, IA; brother, Keith (Lin) Sampson of Colo, IA; sister, Nancy (Jeff) Fouts of State Center, IA; son, Jeremy (Amber) Richards of Grand Junction, IA; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, all the Kathman family, and Sampson family.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 26, 2026, at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home. Interment with Military Honors provided by the Boone Veterans Council will be at Bass Point Cemetery following the funeral service. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to the family to use at their discretion.

The Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home, 609 7th Street, Boone is assisting the family with these arrangements.
