MacDougall, Mayse Recognized for Investigation of Robbery, Kidnapping Case

KWBG 04/21/26

BOONE, Iowa—Boone Police Chief John Wiebold took time Monday during the Boone City Council Meeting to present commendations to two members of the Boone Police Department. Boone Police Department Investigator Nathan MacDougall and Detective John Mayse were recognized for their “highly professional conduct and performance” in identifying and apprehending four people convicted in a 2025 kidnapping and robbery case.

While presenting the Chief’s Commendation to MacDougall and Mayse during the City Council’s meeting, Police Chief John Wiebold the two “demonstrated commitment and professionalism” for their actions in a case that began in the early morning hours of Jan. 20, 2025, when officers were dispatched to a call in response to a man being lured to a Boone residence by a woman.

“At that residence, the victim was beaten, hooded, his hands tied, and his belongings taken from him by three male suspects. The victim was then transported against his will to a location in the county and dropped off. The suspects then fled the area with the victim’s vehicle and belongings,” Wiebold said.

Over the next three months, MacDougall and Mayse conducted more than a dozen interviews, wrote and executed over a dozen search warrants for electronics, social media sites, DNA, and at four separate residences in three cities. At the conclusion of their investigation, four suspects were each charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree kidnapping. All four were convicted and sentenced to prison with one person receiving a 10-year sentence, two receiving 25-year terms and one receiving a 50-year sentence.

“Investigator MacDougall and Detective Mayse displayed relentless effort to bring justice to the victim and did so with professionalism and honor,” the commendation states. “Investigator MacDougall’s and Detective Mayse’s investigation in this case exemplified the Boone Police Department’s mission statement of ‘Justice, Honor, Service.’ These officers are a credit to themselves, the citizens of Boone and the Boone Police Department.”
