
The Madrid boys’ golf team wrapped up its season Wednesday, May 13, with a sixth-place finish at the sectional tournament at Prairie Knolls Country Club in New Sharon, shooting a team score of 358.
Brooklyn‑Guernsey‑Malcom claimed the team title with a 317, followed by Montezuma (335) and North Mahaska (337), in a competitive eight-team field.
Madrid was paced by Eli Petersen, who turned in the team’s top round with an 81, finishing as the Tigers’ low scorer on the day.
Behind him, Zachery Newell carded a 91, with Emerson Bridgewater close behind at 92. Terrin Lawrensen added a 94.
The Tigers also received rounds of 100 from Levi Kockler and 106 from Cory Saxton.
Season wrap-up
Newell posted the team’s lowest nine-hole scoring average at 56.60, including a nine-hole season-low of 42.
Petersen had the team’s lowest 18-hole scoring average at 91, including a 18-hole season-low 81.
