The Madrid girls’ cross country team delivered a strong performance Monday, September 14, at the Mike Carr Invitational at Ballard Golf and Country Club in Huxley, placing second in the Class B race with 73 points.
Van Meter edged the Tigers for the team title with 71 points, while Madrid finished just two points behind.
Pella Christian was third with 77 points, meaning only six points separated the top three teams.
Hannah Brandhorst led the way for Madrid, turning in a third-place finish in 20 minutes, 57.9 seconds.
Charis Peasley crossed the finish line 10th overall in 21:57.6, giving Madrid a second runner inside the top 10.
Makayla Mullenbach added a 17th-place finish in 23:18.2, while Jordyn Adams was close behind in 19th place with a time of 23:23.4.
Adelyn White rounded out Madrid’s scoring runners by placing 24th in 23:42.4.
Claire McCarty finished 28th in 24:20.3, and Alaina Dvorak placed 39th in 25:35.7 to complete Madrid’s varsity lineup.
The Tigers’ balanced effort nearly brought home the team title, finishing ahead of Pella Christian, Lynnville-Sully, Roland-Story, Woodward-Granger and Iowa Falls-Alden.

The Tigers next compete at the Norsemen Cross Country Invitational Thursday, September 24, at River Bend Golf Course in Stoy City.
