The Madrid girls’ cross country team posted a strong showing Thursday, September 10, at the Gilbert Invitational, finishing 11th out of 19 teams on the Iowa State Cross Country Course in Ames.
Madrid scored 279 points in a meet won by Pella, which claimed the team title with 26 points.
Pella’s Elsie Brenneman earned individual honors, crossing the finish line in 17 minutes, 48.11 seconds.
The Tigers were led by Madelyn Grothus, who placed 19th overall in 20:16.56.
Hannah Brandhorst was right behind in 20th place, finishing just five seconds later in 20:21.79.
Charis Peasley placed 39th in 21:10.18 to give the Tigers three runners among the top 40 competitors.
Adelyn White finished in 24:10.83, while Claire McCarty rounded out Madrid’s scoring five in 24:39.97.
Additional runners for the Tigers included Makayla Mullenbach in 25:10.77 and Alaina Dvorak in 26:22.68.

Madrid will return to action Monday, Sept. 14, at the Ballard Invitational at Ballard Golf and Country Club in Huxley.
