
The Madrid girls track and field team won two individual events and finished second overall with 108 points Monday, May 11, at the Pleasantville Coed Meet.
While I‑35 captured the team title with 127 points, Madrid’s ability to score in nearly every event helped the Tigers secure second place.
Host Pleasantville was third with 105 points.
Katelyn Brandhorst surged to victory in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:23.33.
In the field events, Lauren Dvorak won the discus with a throw of 135-00.
Mayzie Surratt added a fourth-place finish in the discus with her throw of 101-09.
Sprint and hurdle events
Paige Richards placed second in the 100-meter dash (12.53).
Adelyn White placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (17.07) and followed with a seventh-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (1:17.93).
Iyla Fine added a seventh-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (17.07).
In the 200-meter dash, Kimee Smith placed fourth in 28.73.
Hailey Renslow finished ninth in the 400-meter run in 1:12.70.
Distance and field events
Charis Peasley finished seventh in the 800-meter run in 2:40.54.
In the 1500-meter run, Olivia Pudenz placed fifth in 6:02.25 and Ella Hutchinson finished eighth in 6:24.96.
Gracelynn Walde and Mayzie Surratt delivered a 3‑4 finish in the shot put, with throws of 31-04.00 and 31-02.50, respectively.
Meanwhile, Alaina Dvorak placed fifth in the high jump with her jump of 4-06.
Avian Landers added a fifth-place finish in the long jump with her jump of 13-01.50, with Renslow finishing eighth with her jump of 12-03.50..
Relay events
The Tigers placed third in the shuttle hurdle relay with Fine, Charlotte Schaeller, Ashlyn Burkhardt and White in 1:13.47.
Madrid finished fourth in the sprint medley relay with Schaeller, Zoey Oleson, Jaela Hansen and Smith in 2:03.44.
The Tigers placed fifth in the 4×400-meter relay with Olsen, Makayla Mullenback, Kiera Alt and Pudenz in 5:09.44.
Madrid also finished fifth in the 4×800-meter relay with Mullenbach, Milena Keller, Katelyn Hanson and Hutchinson in 13:17.20.
The Tigers placed sixth in the 4×100-meter relay with Olson, Smith, Fine and Richards in 56.13.
Madrid also finished sixth in the distance medley relay with Olsen, Mullenbach, Alt, Pudenz in 5:09.44.
Finally, the 4×200-meter relay of Olivia Ostert, Landers, Fine and Hansen finished eighth in 2:06.71.

The girls and boys will compete at the Class 1A, Region 4, State Qualifying Meet Thursday, May 14, at Colfax-Mingo High School.
Schools in the region include Ackley-Geneva/Wellsburg-Steamboat Rock, Ankeny Chrisitan, Baxter, Colfax-Mingo, Collins-Maxwell, Colo-Nesco, East Marshall, Empigo, Joshua Christian Academy, Madrid, Martensdale-St. Mary’s, Melcher-Dallas, Montezuma, Fort Dodge St. Edmond and Woodward Academy.
