08/10/26
Officer interviewed a juvenile and his guardian in reference to a case from the past weekend. The juvenile was cited for criminal mischief and trespassing. Officer called (4) additional juveniles about coming in for their citations in the case as well. All juveniles are from Ankeny.
Officer spoke to a Madrid resident in reference to a civil issue dealing with property after a separation. Officer offered a civil stand-by to make sure that things stayed calm.
Officer was dispatched to Dollar General for a lost/found wallet. Officer located the owner after he returned to pick it up.
Officer interviewed a second juvenile from a case from last weekend. The juvenile was issued citations for criminal mischief and trespassing and released to his parents.
A Madrid resident turned in a male German Shepard dog to the police department, while searching for the owner, the Officer received a phone call from the owner who came to the police department to immediately pick up the dog.
Officer drove to an address in Slater to follow up on a hit n run that happened last week.
Officer assisted Madrid Fire/Rescue and Boone County Ambulance, with a medical call in the 100 block of South Water Street.
Officer prepared video and reports for the County Attorney in regards to an upcoming case.
Officer took a complaint of the lights at Veterans Square no longer coming on at night, Officer advised the proper city employees and they will take care of it as soon as possible.

Officer took a complaint of a resident discharging grass into the street on East 2nd Street, in violation of the city ordinance. Officer spoke with the property owner who claimed ignorance, but advised that it wouldn’t happen again now that he is aware of the ordinance and the problems it causes with the storm sewer system.
Officer assisted Deputies with locating an open line 911 call near X Ave. Officer made contact with a group of farm workers at Syngenta and found the subject that made the errant call.

Officer followed up on a downtown business, that was served a notice to remove two junk vehicles on the property. Both vehicles had been removed and cleaned up for Labor Day.
Officer spoke to a Madrid resident reference a scam that he received from an individual that stated that he was with the Apple Company. They wanted him to send cash. Officer informed him that it was a scam and the subject did not follow through with the transaction.
Officer assisted Madrid Fire/Rescue and Boone County Ambulance, with a medical pendant activation. Officer arrived on scene and discovered it was an accidental activation; everybody was ok.
Officer received a report of a neighbor parking a camper with a fraction of the rear end of the camper on their property, Officer will look at said camper and advise landowner of the next steps.
Officer received a call regarding two dogs actively barking and menacing in the 300 block of East 3rd Street. Officer arrived and attempted to wrangle the dogs but they would not be caught. Officer immediately looked for the dogs when they walked away but could not find them. Officer believes they live nearby and made it home before being found again.
Officer attempted to locate a Madrid resident to advise him he was violating the city’s junk ordinance. Person did not come to the door. Officer attached a notice to the vehicle and if not taken care of, it will have it towed.
A reminder to Madrid residents, this department prefers education rather than citations. You cannot mow your grass clippings into the street. This clogs the city’s drainage system and is like a sheet of glass for motorcyclists and bicycle riders. You need to either mow back into your yard or blow the clippings back onto your property.
The City ordinance is below:
Both Madrid City Code (Title 3, Chapter 1, Section 5.2) and the State of Iowa Code §321.369 state that it is against the law for any person to throw or deposit on any street or sidewalk any glass bottle, glass, nails, tacks, wire, cans, trash, garbage, rubbish, litter, offal, or any other debris or substance (i.e., grass clippings) likely to injure any person, animal or vehicle.
Please take a few minutes to blow any clippings from the city streets and sidewalks back into the yard. Thank you!

Officer was dispatched to the Madrid Elementary School for multiple fire alarms. Officer made contact with staff there and workers accidently set the alarms off while doing work.
Officer met with a third juvenile from a case that started on August 2nd. The juvenile was cited and released to his guardian for criminal mischief and trespassing, after they were found to have broken into and entered a downtown building. Charges are still pending on two other juveniles who will be coming in next week to meet with the officer with their parents.
Officer performed a traffic stop, on a vehicle on Highway 17 Southbound, after the vehicle came up behind him at a high rate of speed and then passed the marked police vehicle. Officer spoke to the driver about his speed and gave him a verbal warning and asked him to plan ahead next time that he was running late to the Des Moines airport.
Officer attempted to locate a subject to serve a junk ordinance violation. Subject is refusing to answer the door for law enforcement. Officer will officially serve a notice of removal and will tow the vehicle at the end of the required time.
Officer was called to Dollar General to pick up a found debit card, Owner came to the Police Department 10 minutes later to claim the debit card.
Officer attempted to locate a Madrid subject to notify them of a land dispute pertaining to their property.
08/14/26
Officer assisted with a lift assist on Highway 210, just East of the city. The officer was able to get the patient up and disregarded all other personnel responding.
Officer shared information and answered questions for the local paper on school and e-bike/scooter safety.
Officer received a complaint at 4th and Water, of the new fire hydrant being put in and the ground being left a mess, causing water to intrude on her property and down the sidewalk. Officer passed the info onto the Public Works Department.
Officer received a call regarding a retail theft out of NYC, caller advised someone with a Madrid address had purchased an item using a credit card then stopped payment through the card, now the person has the item and their money, the Madrid resident’s address was out in the county so the retailer was referred to Boone County Sheriff’s Office
Officer received a call from a resident at The Cedars, he advised there was a leak in the roof. Officer arrived and found staff were already addressing the issue.

Officer responded to a medical call on East 8th Street. Officer stood by with the patient until Madrid Rescue and Boone County Ambulance arrived on scene. Officer collected property to send with the patient to the hospital and secured the door of the residence.
Officer located a reported lost dog on 3rd St. The dog was put back in the fenced yard per the owner who is currently out of town.
Officer assisted with a medical call at the Madrid Home.
Officer responded to the area of the 200 block of South State Street, on a found dog. Officer checked the address and phone number listed on the dog’s tag, but were unable to raise anyone. Boone County Humane Society responded to take possession of the dog.
Officer responded to the Flat Tire on the report of a patron needing a lift home. Officer arranged for the patron’s safe ride home.

Officer responded to Robin Lane to answer questions reference a civil child custody agreement.
Officer responded to an area near the High Trestle Trail on a mental health assist. Patient was transported to the hospital for evaluation.
