
Madrid used a late-game surge to erase an early deficit and defeat Panorama, 10–7, in a West Central Activities Conference baseball game Tuesday, June 2, at Panorama High School in Panora.
Panorama scored two runs in the first inning and added three more in the second to take a 5–0 lead.
The Panthers extended the advantage to 6–0 with another run in the fifth inning, putting the Tigers in a deep hole.
Madrid, however, slowly began to chip away.
The Tigers broke through in the fifth inning with two runs, then added one run in the sixth to cut the deficit in half.
In the seventh inning, Madrid scored three runs to tie the game.
The Tigers erupted for four runs in the top of the eighth, sealing the comeback victory.
Panorama scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning, but it wasn’t enough.
Conner Pettiecord led the way with three hits, three runs scored, one RBI and a double.
Emerson Bridgewater contributed two hits, including two doubles, one run scored and two RBIs.
Mason Morman added two hits, one run scored, two RBIs and a double.
Zach Newell chipped in with two hits and an RBI.
Eli Petersen recorded two hits, one run scored and one RBI to round out the Tigers’ offensive production.
On the mound, Levi Kockler earned the win for Madrid, striking out seven batters over six innings.
Newell came on in relief and recorded two strikeouts to help secure the victory.
With the win, Madrid improves to 4–1 overall, while Panorama drops to 0–7 on the season.
Madrid will look to carry its momentum into its next contest as the Tigers travel to Van Meter (5–4) for a conference doubleheader on Thursday, June 4.
